Ram unveils new Revolution electric truck as critics call Tesla’s cybertruck 'outdated'

Ram has entered the auto industry’s battle for electric truck dominance, unveiling its version of the electric pickup truck.

The Ram 1500 Revolution caused a stir of hype as it debuted at CES 2023 Thursday. Auto critics have called it “sleek, futuristic, and unlike trucks today.”

Despite being late to the game of developing an electric truck, as Ford, Rivian, and GMC are already on the road with their versions, Ram Revolution Chief Design Officer Ralph Gilles said the extra time has allowed the brand to top the field regarding “all the areas customers care about the most,” including range, towing, payload, and charging.

“It’s the difference between bringing a really good bottle of wine to a party or just crashing it late,” Gilles told the Verge. “We’re looking at outperforming competitors in every aspect.”

While the Revolution’s current design is still in the concept stage, it has drawn high praise, even some calling it a model to make “Tesla’s Cybertruck look outdated.”

“It has delivered an eyeful,” Alisa Priddle with Motortrend also noted.

The Revolution’s design currently has cameras in place of side mirrors, doors that swing open in opposite directions, and an interior design that offers third-row jump seats. The electric truck will also reportedly be able to charge at a rate of 350 kilowatts and add 100 miles of range in 10 minutes.

"Everything you see from now on will be a direct descendant of this,” Ram CEO Mike Koval Jr. also said.

Ram plans to launch the new Revolution electric pickup truck in 2024.

I couldn’t find the article I mentioned, but did find a youtube video comparing an Ionic 5 charging at 150KW and 350KW stations under similar conditions. The video says the test charge was 10 to 80 percent of battery capacity. The 350KW charger was quicker by 4 minutes to complete the charge at 19 minutes.

For anybody interested, here the video:

No way to get 200 miles on a 15 minute charge. Not with today’s tech and base chargers.

I guess I should trust you instead of my lying eyes. LOL

EV's aren't for everyone. I wish the Dims would quit forcing it and let it be done on the free market. But when I stop at a 350kW charger with 10% to 15% left in the EV's charge, it gets me to 80% in 10-15 minutes. That 80% gives me 210 miles driving 80 mph.

Excellent choice!

Will this be a “daily driver”?

My pickup is a 1937 Chev 1/2 ton. I have a 1957 235ci six mated to a 700R4 and a 12” posi. I plan to keep it til I die.

While the Revolution’s current design is still in the concept stage..

It's a miracle!

Better than Tesla!

Able to charge fully in minutes, haul 1500 lbs. for thousands of miles on a single charge, and toasts bread..

And it's still a concept.

The 350KW charger was quicker by 4 minutes to complete the charge at 19 minutes.

I'll back that up with my 2022 Ioniq 5. At 150kW chargers I'm outta there in 20 minutes instead of 15 minutes (assuming I'm stopping at 80%, which I almost always do). The difference between 350kW and 150kW is only at the early part of the charging when the battery charge is low and accepts charge really fast.

There are other factors involved. I've been at a charging array with 8 or so other cars and my 350kW charger is charging at only 100kW until the other drivers finish and leave. And I've been at other charging arrays where I got 330 to 350kW even though there were many other cars charging. I noticed this in the summer when we took more trips while in Texas (read: it wasn't a matter of the first charger being in really cold weather in the northeast winter).

Using trucks, yes. But the tradesmen I know are contractors or work in construction trades. My friends who are cabinet makers plumbers painters or flooring all use vans. We will never see these ridiculous electric trucks on a construction site unless it is a government inspector who doesn’t know what end of a hammer is used to drive a nail.

The truck beds have gotten so small that trucks just seem like a car without a trunk lid.

Sounds like the same issue with Tesla's first generation superchargers. They have power sharing stalls. The newer 250KW superchargers don't.

It too will have a 80 mile range when hauling or towing like the electric Ford F-150 and that is in good weather!
Less when it gets cold. No a/c or heat or it will have even less range.

Ram truck: 100 mile range in 10 minutes.... HA!!

Any gas car in 5 minutes will get you 375 miles and the cost will be far cheaper. Note how the democrats are forcing a rise in gas prices as electric cannot compete at all.

You’re describing the Hyundai Santa Cruz, which is really a small modern El Camino. Not my cup of tea, but I’m glad it exists, I’m sure it’s useful for some.

“It’s the difference between bringing a really good bottle of wine to a party or just crashing it late -- Chief Design Officer Ralph Gilles

I absolutely cringe every time an auto exec uses the word "crash" or "impact" to describe their products.

Did you know the General Motors first electric car, the "EV1," was originally NAMED the "Impact"?

This truck looks like another big failure in waiting.

Yes, CONCEPT cars always deliver an eyeful. But delivering an eyeful is somewhat different than delivering an actual vehicle.
