JUST IN - U.S. House has adjourned until noon tomorrow after three failed votes for Kevin McCarthy.
Sorry for being obtuse, but the only way that Jordan’s statement that you reference makes any sort of sense to me is if it ends like this here:
“So let’s all do the only reasonable thing and make like good little Republicans and play along with the boss man, because he’s been here the longest.”
Since the Republicans have the majority, do the Dems even have a say in who gets on the ballot?
If so, what's to stop them from fielding their own candidate and pulling in a few RINOs (they'd need less than 10 for a majority) to vote for that person?
A simpler and more direct translation would be, “Look, our side has f***ed up a zillion times, but the last thing we need is what those sonsab*tches over there want, and the only way that’s going to happen is if we join together and start fighting the war against them that they’ve been fighting against us.”
Then never let McCarthy live one day without putting his whole lower body to the fire.
“ If he had any character, he’d step aside after being repudiated 3 times.”
Exactly. But to him it’s not about character, but pure personal political power. He doesn’t give a crap about the people, just his swamp office - as obviously most of the rest of the Republicans.
“ If so, what’s to stop them from fielding their own candidate and pulling in a few RINOs (they’d need less than 10 for a majority) to vote for that person? ”
Nothing. They just need the RINOs to vote for their RAT nominee.
Well, McCarthy-Luntz did say that if they have to go into conference.....he’d resign and leave politics.
Let’s see if he sticks to his word.
We should have a Three Strikes You’re Out rule on this kind of vote.
No good guys after all.
I hear you.
Elect McCarthy, warts and all, just keep an eye on him.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
So are you a ‘rat or a RINO, or just speaking on their behalf?
Wow. That sounds dangerous.
There are probably a few RINOs who support the Dem agenda and would screw the true conservatives if given the chance.
1) I am not a McCarthy supporter
2) what needs to happen: pull every elected Rep into the room. No staff. Provide water. No food. Tell them no one leaves the room until the issue is resolved.
It should have never gone to the floor until the leaders knew the outcome of the vote. But they thought they would try to force it. False confidence is thick there. Dumb mistake.
I spent 20 year in a State Legislature. At this point, McCarthy is damaged goods and should step aside. I’m not sure who a compromise leader would be. Legislating is the art of negotiating, and getting the best deal you can get. At the end of the deal making, if nobody’s happy then you can figure a good deal of negotiating has gone on.
A successful victor will disperse committee assignments to both groups, in order to be assured both side will assist in moving the agenda forward. If one group is frozen out, they won’t owe leadership anything and we will get to witness a series of public cat fights the next 2 years.
>The Dems are probably freaking out about this more than the Republicans are.
If McCarthy got a smooth ride into his seat, it’s pretty clear the big-money side of the GOP rules the roost.
However, now it’s pretty clear that’s not the case and you have people yesterday from Dem factions (like AOC) coming over and asking what’s going on and such.
I suppose you support the grifter in chief.
LOL. I want to see him beaten into the dirt. Don't really much care who takes his place. The party is useless anyway.
It needs to be said. The elephant in the room is dead. We need a MAGA party.
Isn't attempting to put him into a leadership position a rather extravagant means of keeping him honest?
The moment kevy were to get the speakership he would pander to the demoncraps and go to war on MAGA and stick a knife in the backs of the Republican base (again). You know it. I know it. He knows it. He knows we know it.
McCarthy is a professional politician. There aren't odds big enough for me to take that bet that he does, JL. Cheers!
