A local hospital in northern Ghana told 29-year-old Sulemana Abdul Samed during one of his recent check-ups that he had reached the height of 9 ft 6in (2.89m).
This would make him the tallest man in the world, but there was a catch - the rural clinic could not be sure of his height because it did not have the correct measuring tools.
But Awuche does not let his problems get him down. He is full of soul as his tall slim frame weaves through the dusty paths of the village - smiling as people call out to him.
...Some people want to take selfies with him - even strangers come up to ask if he is the giant they have seen on social media.
"I usually will say: 'Yes come closer' - we stand and take nice pictures," Awuche says.
His first priority is to try and raise money for plastic surgery to deal with a serious skin complaint on one leg, ankle and foot caused by the excess growth of the limb.
But looking at his bandaged toes, Awuche refuses to be disheartened by his predicament.
"That is how Allah chose it for me, I am OK. I don't have a problem with the way God created me."

I went to see the bullets play the celtics, saw Manute Bol from a distance get out of his car. It was like one of those tall thin modern art statues come to life, fold itself out of the car and walk into a stadium entrance. I walked up to check the car out, it was a BMW with the front seat taken out, he drove from the back. It was a manual transmission too.

Such giants mostly do not get past 30 years old. The human heart is not built to pump blood such distance. There have been other 8 foot+ giants. I remember one that was in rural Russia.He expired within a year of the news report.

That is funny. Me and my buddy saw mut bul climb out of a dodge omni at beltway plaza in greenbelt md wait what he was also driving from the back seat. 80s I think.
If truly 9’6”, the NBA would have drafted him already.
Wow an omni is pretty small. I never saw him really close but from a distance he didn’t look real, what a specimen. When he went down the court he looked like he was running in slow motion. He was a character too from what I have read.

Adorable. I have pictures of my kids at the Natural History Museum standing in front of glassed in exhibit of a giraffe skeleton. “Knee high to a giraffe” is where we began, and kids grew from there. We went once a year.
That was in Chicago, in what was then the very nice South Shore. Wouldn’t dream of taking any kid there today.
Many years ago I was in Charlotte on business and staying in the same hotel as the Detroit Pistons. I got on an elevator with Bill Laimbeer and a very tall thin black guy who I thought was Manute Bol (though he never played for Detroit or Charlotte as far as I know). I consider myself a big guy, but felt like an ant in that elevator.
That’s pretty wild. Laimbeer was 6’11, Bol was 7’7 or so. Bol didn’t even look real to me when I saw him, like a pitch black anthropomorphic firehose walking around.
