So he DID watch “Columbo”. But not “Enemy of the State”.
This will be an episode of “Forensic Files” one day. Getting away with murder is almost 0% with todays technology.
However, this show must be extremely disturbing and upsetting to the victims family and friends and the cases are usually 10+ years old.

80 miles between Spokane and Moscow. I still don’t get how he originally connected or singled them out.
He’s not stupid but the blabbermouth cop needs to be identified and called in for a conversation about operational security.
There has to be much more to be told here. I strongly suspect he changed clothes inside the apartment after the killings, leaving no bloody footprints. He obviously put a great deal of thought into this, and I am surprised he had no visible scratches or injuries.
He was a hardcore vegan so it is possible these were political killings.
Have they determined a motivation yet?
(’He’s not stupid and has been very careful,’ the anonymous source said.)
Cell phone tracking...Hello?
(no pun intended)
This guy was a criminal justice student. He had to know that once he sat in his car the DNA from his victims would likely be transferred to the interior of the vehicle. Also he knew that the vehicle was being sought by the police and was registered at WSU, not far from the crime. Why didn’t he ditch the car if he was so meticulous? Instead he drove home to his parents. Also his parents had to know their son and his psychological peculiarities. They knew he drove an Elanta and lived not far from the crime site. Did they or their daughters have suspicions and talk to him? Can’t imaging what a horrible position and conflict his family experienced.
“...claims friend of investigator: ‘He’s not stupid and has been very careful’”
Is this “rat” still the investigator’s friend?
“’he’s not stupid and has been very careful’”
He was Criminal Justice major. How can he not have a handle on police forensic science abilities?
“Friend” of investigator? Investigator needs to keep his big mouth shut so he does not cause evidence to become inadmissible.
His cellphone ratted him out!
Never had a chance. Here’s how I suspect it went:
1. Cousin submits DNA sample to 23 and Me.
2. He does his crime, but leaves DNA (very hard not to, for that crime).
3. Police/FBI test sample, no match. Then to to 23 and Me, and get 100 possibilities of relatives, with rankings as to the closest.
4. Police/FBI then give the list of names to their former co-workers at the phone carriers and database managers to look for phone pings and search license plate camera databases for the 100 persons.
5. One hit clearly stands out with pings in the area (since nearly all others are in the Eastern US). They have their man.
(now on to making their work look legal and/or not giving away their techniques, so they have to show some shoe leather)
6. Police make a point of interviewing a relatively large number of people and then concoct a ‘witness’ or two who “saw” his white Hyundai at the scene.
7. Police then get warrants as required, to access the phone pings and license plate databases legally.
8. They then follow the suspect and arrest him.
well, he couldn’t have been THAT smart, using his own cell phone in the proximity of the murders and during his flight to pennsylvania ... using burner phones and removing battery and SIM cards from your own phone are pretty much Anti-Detection 101 ...
Lesson for future psychotic killers: leave your phone home when stalking victims or committing crimes.
I’m thinking the gloves were to cover injuries to his hands. Investigators previously stated those were likely to occur due to the weapon that was used.
