Not So Fast on Electric Cars
WSJ ^ | 26 Dec 2022 | Allysia Finley

Toyota CEO Akio Toyoda recently caused the climate lobby to blow a fuse by speaking a truth about battery electric vehicles that his fellow auto executives dare not. “Just like the fully autonomous cars that we were all supposed to be driving by now,” Mr. Toyoda said in Thailand, “I think BEVs are just going to take longer to become mainstream than the media would like us to believe.” He added that a “silent majority” in the auto industry share his view, “but they think it’s the trend, so they can’t speak out loudly.”

The Biden administration seems to believe that millions of Americans will rush out to buy electric vehicles if only the government throws enough subsidies at them.

Imagine if the 100 million Americans who took to the road over the holidays were driving electric cars. How many would have been stranded as temperatures plunged? There wouldn’t be enough tow trucks—or emergency medics—for people freezing in their cars.

... the web of federal rules, including the National Environmental Policy Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Uniform Relocation Assistance and Real Property Acquisition Policies Act of 1970, and a 1960 federal law that bars charging stations in rest areas.

The harder they push the more it seems like they’re afraid of something, and it isn’t “climate change”.

Careful. The FR-EVers will be on ya. 😀👍 Just remember you can’t spell ch**rolet without an EV. Like CorEVette. 😲😂😂😂👍 Ya just can’t get that feel of a 500 cid hemi with open headers idling. Even with the new dodge ev charger with its faux exhaust sound system.

They want control over the grid so they can turn it off.

We have a 2008 Camry Hybrid. We didn’t buy it for gas milage or to save the planet but at 230k miles, my son still gets 30+ mph and the car ran great in the super storm we just had.

Almost 10 years ago we put a geothermal system in our old home. The federal rebates made the price about the same as going with a conventional heat pump with oil backup, like we had before. No problems with the system but the promised savings were a fantasy. The improvement was 5%, if that.

the really scary part is when everyone is forced onto the grid, ie evs and heating

and the grid is powered by wind/solar

energy will be expensive and scarce

perfect scenario for controlling the masses

Electric cars don’t explode. There have been some electric car fires like the one in Florida after the hurricane and wone a couple of days ago that was caused by some hapless driver using autopilot. That one was a collision. It was on fire but didn’t “explode”.

Payola

They start taking a scientific approach to all this climate stuff instead of working off of various non-expert politcal wish lists.

If you have not heard of it or read it Bjorn Lomborg has a book out called the skeptical environmentalist it’s about putting together a think tank to start looking at the environment logically and scientifically notpushing forward agenda based different wish lists.

We haven’t even started yet and Bjorn comes up with the idea that the coming Generations are going to figure this out and they’re stupid. What needs to be done is to work on proper nutrition and a proper approach to STEM education and they can figure it out.

All that came out of a panel of 18 scientists, economists, Nobel laureates, and that was their answer, not this circus that we see up in DC and every other country’s capital.

The most important and disturbing sentence in the article:

“but they think it’s the trend, so they can’t speak out loudly.”

Why can’t ‘they’ “speak out loudly”?

This is America, land of free speech, at least it used to be that.

Again, the entire reason governments are mandating EVs is to greatly reduce the number of privately owned vehicles and sharply, if not totally, eliminate freedom of mobility. All of these charging issues are features, not defects to the people pushing EVs.

The rats know, and the GOP doesn’t care, that EVs are part of the Great Reset to destroy Western Civilization and build Marxist states upon the rubble.

It is happening before our eyes in the Netherlands and Germany.

EVs need to be pioneered and “domesticated” imo.

In the meanwhile, beware of special-interest investors who work in cahoots with corrupt lawmakers to abuse government power by using it to force consumers to buy a junk science product as a remedy for a government-manufactured crisis.

My trucks and the wife's car all have batteries so they identify as EVs.

EV's aren't ready for prime time. The batteries are too inefficient, the charging times too slow, the range too short, and the electrical grid isn't up to the task. The batteries are also too heavy, it takes more energy to move a heavier vehicle so it's inefficient to haul all that weight around, plus it tears up the roads more. It's going to take a massive jump in battery technology or more likely some type of fuel cell to get rid of the battery and produce the electricity on board.

If I thought they were a better mouse trap I might consider one, right now they're not though. If they get to that point in my lifetime I might consider one, now they're just toys though.

MASSIVE subsidies to Big Oil causes massive market disruption in the Automotive Market.

What subsidies?

Taxing them less than liberals would like them to be taxed is not a subsidy.
