1. The media has convinced them that unless they can get a woman who is exceedingly beautiful, then they would be a loser for settling for less. Better to stay single than to suffer the indignity of having an ugly girlfriend or wife.
2. No matter how wonderful (or even just acceptable) that a particular woman seems to be, eventually she will turn on the guy. She will marry him, have a baby or two, and then divorce him and take half his wealth which she'll share with her lesbian girlfriend or cougar-loving chads. 3. Most guys are sluts. Dating apps have made it easy for the top ten percent of guys to grab all the nookie. Since sex is no longer about building long-term physical bonds between married men and women, or about bringing new souls into the world then trivial aspects like looks and willingness to get "freaky" will trump traditional reasons for dating and developing relationships.
Since millennials have worse job prospects, baby boomers have all the cash and prestige, and people are more materialistic in general, young women are more likely to end up with older men leaving millennial men in the lurch.
