I live in an early-60's-build house. For the most part, it's wonderful, but it has very little insulation. I've been meaning to rectify that, but didn't yet.
So, after spending a warm night buried under blankets, I wake up to a shivering-cold set of rooms, all under 60 degrees F.... even though me and the missus set all the baseboard heating to max and left both space heaters going.
So, I decide to go to Walmart. I find two pallets of space heaters, one of them Infra-red, and one of them Oil-radiant. Both are electric.
I go ahead and put one of each in my cart, get a few food items, then decide to pick up one more Infra-red heater.... maybe 5 minutes later.
BOTH PALLETS ARE CLEANED OUT... when I get to the register, everyone had a pair of those heaters in their cart.
I had a landline as well as the cell until this past May. Got rid of Spectrum cable, the phone, and just kept internet for streaming. All I ever got on the landline were spam calls, so I turned the ringer off years ago, and rarely used it. I only kept it because it was bundled with cable and internet, and figured I'd have to pay more for the other two if I got rid of it. When I cancelled everything but the internet, the guy from Spectrum told me my bill would have been cheaper had I gotten rid of it long ago.
"...had to get home when the street lights went on."
Same here. Back in the old days, my mother made us wear leggings when we went outdoors to play in the winter. Remember leggings? Nobody wears them anymore unless they're skiing or snowmobiling, I guess.
There was a time I got a letter my extension cord and went to the car with a hair dryer to warm up the handle enough to get it open.
I’ve also had cases where the driver side was frozen shut, but was able to get the passenger side open and scoot over.

Weโre on vacation in western Michigan for Christmas. Our home in maryland has the heat turned down.
The house has a ball valve for the main water pipe. We always shut the whole system down when we leave town. If a pipe freezes it wonโt be a big deal.
Roads here are really slick. My company car is a 4wd F-150. I donโt normally take it on vacation but decided to this time. My adult kids arenโt thrilled because they arenโt allowed to drive it.
Iโm not one of those โI need 4 wheel driveโ guys but it does track nice in the deep snow and ice.
I’ve used a hair dryer before. Hit and miss. Just be careful. I gave my driver door a try day before yesterday and it opened right up!! Great — EXCEPT the gasket came with the door and I couldn’t get that pot-licker to stay in place for love nor money. So there’s an air leak until it warms enough to soften it up.
We had the tub thing in Tenn. Girls first then the guys. Same water.
However, you have me beat with the chamber pots.
Oohhh....so beautiful. Merry Christmas ๐๐
We have been getting down to the high 60’s at night, makes for outstanding sleeping weather. Humidity is dropping as well.
Thank you...and Merry Christmas to you, too!
9ยฐ here. But the 30 mph winds dead out of the north makes it absolutely vicious. Much better in my current place though. I used to live in a converted cottage that had no ductwork, only a gas wall heater with a blower in the center of the house. The further you got from the heater, the colder it got. And no sewer, just a septic tank and a deep well. And the line from the well to the house would freeze EVERY winter, no matter what I did to stop it. I was 3 houses off lake Huron and got snowed in every winter.
Many, many times I would park my car at the gas station 1/2 mile from the house and walk out so I could go to work until my neighborhood finally got plowed out.
While I miss the location of that place, I certainly do not miss it’s flaws.

Well, I would certainly hope so! Always be grateful for those who love you.
How about the clips for your mittens? I had a spectacular winter coat with a muff. I was maybe 3. I was the first female niece/grandchild...Boy was I spoiled. I had 100 dolls at one time.
I went deer hunting. Wind chill around zero. I didnโt see jack except for Jack Frost.
I hope you didn't shoot him...lol.SHOOT ON SIGHT.,, LOL
I was in Lowes Friday trying to get their alarm system to silence after the dry pipe sprinkler finally thawed enough to reveal the broken pipe(s) and trip.
The assistant store manager said they sold 1835 faucet covers in a few hours and people were still coming in and getting mad that they didn’t have any more.
We have known for a week this thing was coming and I’m not sure it really helps to put covers over frozen faucets anyway.
Was stationed in Greenland, Fairbanks Alaska, Cold Lake Canada and Kincheloe AFB in the UP of Michigan .......
Cold ?
Cowboy Up Laz !!!!
Happy Christmas buddy !!
Stay Safe !!!
My grandmother had an unheated room at the back of the house where she kept a lot of her food and winter preserves.

Do you have a hair dryer and an extension cord?

Laz, get yourself a 95% AFUE sealed combustion upflow forced-air with in-line humidifier/dehumidifer and in-line air cleaner stat. You won’t regret it.
