WASHINGTON — Before Donald Trump became president and after, his exceedingly complex and voluminous tax returns came under regular scrutiny by the Internal Revenue Service. The number of agents assigned to the audit team: one.
After Trump left office, the IRS said it was beefing up the audit team, to three. The tax agency itself acknowledged that it was still overwhelmed by the complexity of Trump’s finances and the resistance mounted by the former president and his sophisticated army of accountants and lawyers, which included a former IRS chief counsel and raised questions early last year about why even three revenue agents should be assigned to audit him.
“With over 400 flow-thru returns reported on the Form 1040, it is not possible to obtain the resources available to examine all potential issues,” IRS agents said of Trump’s tax returns in an internal memo that was released by the House Ways and Means Committee this week as part of its oversight of the mandatory presidential audit process.

May I recommend to the NYT the Flat Tax could solve most of these issues.
So the man is audited, and nothing is found wrong....
Our Fake Government wouldn't be able to weaponize its Fake Tax Laws if we had the Flat Tax.
This argument over “what Trump should have paid” is very easily resolved - institute a 5-10% max flat tax on all Americans. No deductions whatsoever
What are the chances corrupt Washington DC does this?
Ask me if I really GAS. You fags enjoy your copy of Trump’s tax returns your RAT leaders gave you for Festivus. I’m going to have a Merry Christmas.
What are the odds?
The old “Show me the man, I’ll find you the crime” is proving difficult.
“Here is the man. Look at his taxes and find a crime.”
“I have looked. I have found nothing wrong.”
“Look harder. I can provide more resources. Keep looking until you find the crime.”
“I understand.”
“Do you?? Someone is going to suffer. Who that is, depends on how much you find.”
Which is why the Democrats should not have been allowed to get his tax returns.
I think all rich people are audited often. Rush was audited continuously.
It seems to me they could stil screw around with a flat tax.
And, that’s one big reason I support the FairTax model. Stop taxing income all together. Tax spending. States become the tax collector, no annual filing and it brings an end to significant portions of the current tax fraud crap.
I'll need a definition of "all Americans".
I like this because it will hit every spender equally: those who spend MORE, pay MORE. Those who spend less, pay less!
Isn’t that what the multi-tiered debacle we have was set up to ensure? Those with higher incomes pay higher taxes!
Also, it would hit all those ILLEGALS who live in a mostly cash-payment society...they will still spend that cash and we will get to tax their $$ too!!
90% of all that tax-free cash is sent back to their tias in.... wait for it..Mexico, Veneralzuela, El Salvador, Guatecamole, etc tax freee too
“ And, that’s one big reason I support the FairTax model.”
The “pre-bate” thing is the kiss of death for me. And the chances of the Fed’s taxing spending AND income.
But I like the sales tax idea.
I’m triggered.
Fair Tax!!
And THAT is where we will hit them with a transaction tax!! They will have to pay taxes to send their money back to their tias!!
Maybe the real problem is the complexity of the tax code. But no, leave it to the MSM to conclude the problem is we aren't wasting enough tax dollars on hiring more agents to harass people about compliance to said tax code.
Kevin McCarthy, supposed (God forbid) House leader come Jan 3, sez, ““On that very first day that we’re sworn in, you’ll see that it all changes,” McCarthy said. “Because on our very first bill, we’re going to repeal 87,000 IRS agents. Our job is to work for you, not go after you.”
Later in the article there is this: The House passed the legislation Thursday, although it appears to have little prospect of passage by the Senate.
IF, big IF, McCarthy is selected as leader and they do indeed pass legislation to do away with the 87,000 agents, the above sentence will apply. The chance of the Senate passing a bill like this is slim and none. Same with most every other bill passed by the House.
Trump is a tax paying American. Congress has their taxes paid by the people.
Zilch. Do you have any idea how many pols fund their campaigns and their retirements by using their power to carve out exemptions for their friends or threaten penalties to those who refuse to be their “friends” in the tax code? Not to mention all the tax professionals and tax attorneys who would fight tooth and nail to avoid simplifying the code that feeds their careers. This is the reason the code is thousands of pages long and written in the original Aztec language.
