NY Post ^ | Hannah Frishberg

“It’s just like owning a condo,” Wells told CNBC of the whopping $300,000 he paid for a 12-year lease for one of the ship’s 237-square-foot studios. “I’m going from this model where you want to go somewhere, you pack a bag, you get on a flight, you rent a room, to now my condo, my gym, my doctors and dentists, all of my grocery stores travel the world with me.”

On my previous 47 cruises not only I never got sick, but came home feeling stronger with all the high nutrition food and amazing gym on ships.

My fear exactly. I would never live on one of those top heavy monstrosities. I know they’re engineered to be safe, but I still don’t trust them.

I know a couple of people who worked on them as well. It was fun when they were 25. 35? Not so much.

Lots of great stories though.

Yes I will not consider living on a cruise ship.
It is wonderful getaway for a week. But I like the spaciousness and quiet of my home.

Do they offer an option of burial at sea? Cheaper than a funeral.

Sounds cheap.
I think I remember you could cruise around the entire world on the QE II, but it took a year and cost about 1 million USD. This was my plan if I won a huge lottery, during that year people would somewhat forget all about the lottery win.

While you’re there, ask the musicians what college they went to. I bet at least a couple will say University of Northern Colorado. Cruise lines and Disney recruit pretty heavily there. I chose another route.

Well, yes. A $2,083/month rental with fixed rate for 12 years.
For 237 sq ft he’s paying almost $8.80 per sq ft per month.

My guess is that he’s gonna try to write it off as a work cost, especially if he’s operating as an independent contractor to Meta.

The daily recommended gratuity, often called a service charge, is around $18 PPPD. The cheapest cabin, inside, is usually at least $100 PPPD. Balcony cabins are twice that.

Well, they are employees, not guests. Thus are most likely not allowed to use the amenities that the guests can. But I wouldn’t want to be at sea all of the time. If I had, I would have joined the Navy way back when. 🙂

True, but I’m just talking about actually living aboard. I bet this guy will get tired of it after a while.

Worst than living on an island. Even Hawaii gets too small in a hurry. I can’t imagine spending any time, let alone years, on one of these floating petri dishes.

With the added benefit of being invasion-proof.

No mention in the article of the monthly fees, which will certainly be in the thousands.

We have 17 people per sq mile here and that is too crowded. I’d go nuts after 3 days on a cruise ship.

As I said, I wouldn’t care to do so. But then I have seen other posts about these kinds of arrangements, that other Freepers would want to partake in. So I guess it’s all up to the individual. 🙂
