“It’s just like owning a condo,” Wells told CNBC of the whopping $300,000 he paid for a 12-year lease for one of the ship’s 237-square-foot studios. “I’m going from this model where you want to go somewhere, you pack a bag, you get on a flight, you rent a room, to now my condo, my gym, my doctors and dentists, all of my grocery stores travel the world with me.”

A condo should build some equity.

Does he pay income tax when out and about?

Can he sublease it?

Can he bring a friend? How many?

I’ve had friends who were musicians on cruise ships, and lived aboard. It’s not as glamourous as people think.

Millennials. They know so much about what isn't true, and love to lecture you about it.

Does he still have to tip the Cabin staff after every trip? That is almost as expensive as the cabin.

Where else can you get unlimited variety of foods and all you can eat? Where else you can see stage entertainment every evening and listen to live musicians? Where else you see new scenery every day instead of the same neighbors house from land apartments? Which land apartments has room steward clean cabin and make the bed every day? Which apartment has access to deluxe gym overlooking the ocean?: Which land apartments has 12+ bars and shops a few steps away?

Where else can you have 2000 people all sick at the same time?

Oh look. Another non-breeding educated white person.

He works for Meta. So likely will be unemployed soon.

Where else can you have a fire on board, with limited means of escape? Where else can that fire disable the engines, leaving you stranded at sea? Where else can being stranded at sea greatly limit those unlimited variety of foods?

I would be ok in doing this if I paid for a lifetime option for a room and I could afford to stay on the ship for life.

The lease is for 2,100 a month. No garage or extraneous fees, all meals and amenities included. If you are a renter, not a bad deal. Of course, you have to deal with illness, other passengers, bad weather at sea, etc. Unless you are actually working on the ship, if you have access to WIFI wherever the ship goes and you can work remote, sounds like a great way to live.

For 300k, I would rather buy a place within walking distance to a beach, rent it out whenever I am not using it and do other things with my life.

If a condo is on land, it usually can be relied on to remain level.

I am booked on my 48th 7 day cruise in January. Never had an issue with safety. Cruise ship is burglary proof, which is the fastest growing crime.

This was very popular prior to COVID. Most ships have doctors as well, but after COVID, a floating cesspool of illness.

But you’re not going to live there. That’s the difference. You’re just there for a little while at a time. Enjoy the cruise.

Land condo buildings are known for fires caused by neighbors building.

Plus those expenses aren’t cheap on a cruise ship.

IMO there’s something really off with someone that age wanting to live that life. If you’re a wealthy 85yo widow, that’s completely different.

I kinda did the same thing in the mid 90s.

Except I got paid to stay there for four years.
And mine was painted haze grey on the outside.
And it had five inch cannons and two CIWS platforms as well as a couple of RAM launchers.
Not to mention the sweet swimming pool at the stern.
All in all, fun times!

A real life Waterworld.

I would hate to be on that thing when the diesel fuel runs out. Now if it were a nuke ship….that might work.
