McCarthy Promises to Subpoena 51 Ex-Intel Officials who Discredited Hunter Biden Laptop Story
American Greatness ^ | 12 Dec, 2022 | Eric Lendrum

In another campaign promise as part of his bid to become Speaker of the House, Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) has vowed to issue subpoenas to all 51 former members of the intelligence community who signed onto an open letter falsely declaring the Hunter Biden laptop story to be “Russian disinformation.”

As reported by the New York Post, McCarthy’s pledge came after the latest round of the “Twitter Files” were released by Elon Musk, revealing the true extent of the company’s past efforts to systematically censor conservatives over liberals. McCarthy has since described Twitter’s newly-revealed conduct as “egregious.”

“Those 51 intel agents that signed a letter that said the Hunter Biden information was all wrong, was Russia collusion, many of them have a security clearance,” said McCarthy. “We’re going to bring them before a committee. I’m going to have them have a hearing, bring them and subpoena them before a committee. Why did they sign it? Why did they lie to the American public?”

The letter, which falsely declared that the Hunter Biden story had “all the classic earmarks of a Russian information operation,” included such signatories as former CIA Director John Brennan and former National Security Council Director James Clapper.

The Twitter Files consist of numerous screenshots of internal messages, documents, backend controls, and other pieces of evidence showcasing just how much Twitter was actively censoring users in the weeks leading up to the 2020 presidential election. Musk has allowed the files themselves to be shared with the public through journalists Matt Taibbi and Bari Weiss in lengthy Twitter threads. These files have revealed the coordinated efforts at Twitter to censor the Biden laptop story, the controls that they had at their disposal to shadowban any given user, and the steps that were taken to ban President Donald Trump in the aftermath of the peaceful protests at the United States Capitol on January 6th, 2021.

In addition to focusing on Twitter, McCarthy has also vowed that the new Republican-led House will target Google and Facebook, saying that these Big Tech platforms have “become an arm of the Democratic Party.”

“It’s bound to be the same at Facebook, Google/Youtube, etc.”

I’ll add to your “etc” ... my theory is that with the lack of even miniscule reporting by major corporate media, these outlets were involved too with feral givernment officials ... not just big tech.

These ex officials are all deep state. The only thing the people will see regarding the deep state will be how they avoid any and all mainstream criticism. Some should be in prison….. but avoided it. They have zero fear. It will be political theater. Id rather they subpeona Bill Barr about the FBI and twitter.

Waste of time. Every one of them that actually responds won’t be able to recall any specifics or even give a meaningful soundbite, not like the nightly news would carry it if they did.

Better strategy:
- haul the current leading intel agency officials in front of congress and direct them to provide testimony about the background and tradecraft involved in assessing a news story leads one to determine that it is russian disinformation.
- have the current government intelligence officials detail where those former officials were mistaken, incorrect, or deliberately deceiving the American public. Probably get a lot of weaseling here, but it’s important to determine the credibility of those people as assets to the government.
- if the judgement of the former officials can’t be trusted, then direct the current officials to detail all of the ongoing interactions the government still has with these people. What clearances, what contracts, what companies, and how much money all of it is worth.
- if the former officials have demonstrably flawed assessment abilities, and they are being paid or consulted by the government to make intelligence assessments, that has to stop. That’s part of the House’s oversight responsibilities, and the phrasing and process matters much more than blindly trying to catch John Brennan in a Matlock moment where he confesses everything from the stand.

If this happens one or more will flip and turn on the rest to save himself. That will be fun to watch, but we don’t need McCarthy to get that done.

“Promise” is a weasle weasle word.

McCarthy needs to “vow” to “probe” in order to make his future inaction official.

Also, “subpoena” is an action expected to be ignored by the “51”.

51 is 1 more than 50. Ooooh booga booga

They wrote the letter in a “non-denial denial” fashion. They never specifically state that the Russians did it, just that the may have. Noting will come of this as there is plenty of CYA phrasings in the letter:

“has all the classic earmarks of a Russian information”

“we do not know if the emails… are genuine or not”

“If we are right”

“a number of factors that make us suspicious of Russian involvement.”

“Such an operation would be consistent with Russian objectives.

“Such an operation would be consistent with methods Russia has used

“Our view that the Russians are involved in the Hunter Biden email issue is consistent with two other significant data points as well.”

The only power Congress has is funding. Ring me up when they do any budget cuts on the spook agencies.

I have always felt that security clearances, which appear to be lucrative, lifetime money generators for every single one of those 51 pieces of crap who put their signature to that paper should have them revoked.

But it won’t happen.

I would not be surprised if McCarthy’s roomate, Frank Lunz, is still giving McCarthy suggestions on how to handle his conservative base, without really doing anything conservative.

Looks like Podesta was in charge of this letter. It would right down his alley along with Barak’s shadow WH.

So what will happen to them? NOTHING. The IC clearly used their office and influence to (i) Try to discredit Trump during the 2016 election via “Russian collusion” and then (ii) To protect Biden by down playing the Hunter laptop in the weeks before the election. It is clear what they did, but how do you punish them when Democrats control most of the government? How do you punish the career civil servants? You don’t. The only solution is to disband them; we didn’t have an IC before WWII and i would argue we have never needed them. Keep the DIA with elements of the NSA under authority of the Army and the NRO/NGA under the Air Force and bag the rest.

My guess is they all respond with "I plead the 5th."
