He was like Dr. Smith in “Lost in Space”. You hate him, but he makes the show better.
When James Garner tried revisiting his Maverick character in “Bret Maverick”, Stuart Margolin showed up as a 19th century version of Angel, bragging about his tracking prowess. He also directed the episode.
Good character actor.

In addition to all the roles noted here, Margolin was also a great songwriter / musician who was the partner of Jerry Riopelle of the band of the same name which was a regional favorite in Phoenix and Los Angeles.
