Elon Musk hits San Fran mayor with reality check over city investigation into his decision to put bedrooms in Twitter HQ

The city of San Francisco is reportedly investigating Elon Musk for converting some office space inside Twitter's headquarters into sleeping quarters for employees.

What is the background?

When Twitter employees returned to work on Monday, they discovered that several conference rooms inside the company's headquarters had been made over as bedrooms.

Forbes reported:

A photo of one converted bedroom shared with Forbes showed bright orange carpeting, a wooden bedside table and what appears to be a queen bed, replete with a table lamp and two office armchairs just begging for convivial workplace collaboration.

One source said that no announcement or context was provided to employees, and presumed that the beds are for remaining “hardcore” staffers to be able to stay overnight at the office.

What is happening now?

San Francisco's Department of Building Inspection is investigating Musk and Twitter for potentially violating city building codes by using space designated for work as living areas, according to Forbes.

The investigation was initiated after someone filed an official complaint with the city.

"We need to make sure the building is being used as intended," Patrick Hannan, a spokesman for the department, said in a statement. "There are different building code requirements for residential buildings, including those being used for short-term stays. These codes make sure people are using spaces safely."

"No one is above the law," he declared.

Nonsense
Musk himself works 80 to 120 hour weeks and sleeps in the Tesla factories a lot of the time
That makes him a “s;ave” too?

Welcome to Free Republic 24 hours ago.

You don’t own Twitter.

As a considerably poor professional compared to Elon Musk,I left work many times long after sunrise, and resorted to napping in a storage room with an old moving tarp as my blanket.

I don’t think Chinese slave labor camps have furnished bedrooms.

When I was too tired to make it home after a long shift, my company had showers and bedding, Laundry, per diem for food, etc. Plus I had company credit card if I wanted a hotel. (I was 60 miles out and expected to work the next day).

A lot of businesses have sleeping arrangements in case emergency requires people to remain. I’ve worked in an institution where everything would go to hell in a big snowstorm where people couldn’t get to work. They had beds and pillows and everything in reserve, in case they were needed - and they were, a couple of times while I was there.

Not all companies can or want to be that thoughtful.

When hubby was younger it wasn’t as issue.

But with age came wisdom.

It’s is a great idea, especially as it rewards employees (and, indirectly, their families) willing to work their keisters off for their employer. I’m glad Musk is doing it.

Such bedrooms are really just ice cream storage and hammers storage spaces.

Nope.
They are real bedrooms.

Oh, and unauthorized servers with state department access.

No more State Depatment access
Musk has cut the suckers off.

Worked with some AT&T peeps and CAT peeps back then. they had the same set up.
None of us kept a normal 5 day work week. 6 one day and 18 the next. I don’t miss it.

Guessing it’s for his gay San Franciso employees.

Did Twitter have a liquor license prior to Musk? There was wine on tap.

Oh Puleeze!
What does this fool have to say about the tens of thousands of homeless people in San Francisco and them vast numbers of homeless “tents” all over San Francisco streets?

I guess all those tents on sidewalks etc meet building code safety standards! Sanitary standards? Plumbing and electrical compliance? Fire codes? Oh, of course!

“What about San Fran fire stations? Is the communist tards gonna go after them?”

Or hospitals. Residents often sleep there when pulling long shifts.

Suggest including a sofa bed and an amoire in conference rooms, so the facility doesn’t violate code even though the rooms are used as crash spaces.

Also, think of having some showers and changing rooms, not only to support the crash spaces, but for employees who like to work out during work breaks. We live in a day of flex time.

Access to these spaces should be a “privilege” to employees with crazy hours built around customers needs.

Finally, you have to give workers comp time, who work crazy hours. Comp time is for most workers more important than extra pay and, besides, we’re talking salaried workers, not hourly workers.

Not joking. This leads to a slippery slope. Many companies are going to a 4 day work week, some even looking at three day 16 hours days. How long before an Amazon type requires their employees to stay there for the entire 3 days for employee safety of course?

The Great Reset. You will live in the company owned housing and own nothing. Chipping way a little at a time.

Musk may have screwed up by admitting in his tweet that his company “provides beds for tired employees”. He should have admitted nothing. Make the city prove that the beds are there for employees to sleep in, and not a “meditation room” or some such use.

No it doesn't. It sounds like he is giving employees who might need to rest a place to do so. Nothing more, nothing less.

Now if he had one or two rooms with cots for every employee, I might buy into your opinion.
