Christine McVie, the co-lead vocalist, songwriter and keyboardist of Fleetwood Mac, has died aged 79 following a 'short illness', her family have revealed.
In a statement, McVie's family said she was 'a revered musician who was loved universally' and was surrounded by loved ones when she died.
'She passed away peacefully at hospital this morning, Wednesday, November 30th following a short illness. She was in the company of her family.
'We kindly ask that you respect the family's privacy at this extremely painful time and we would like everyone to keep Christine in their hearts and remember the life of an incredible human being.'
Her former bandmates said tonight they're devastated by the loss, describing her as 'the best friend anyone could have in their life'.
'She was truly one-of-a-kind, special and talented beyond measure... She was the best musician anyone could have in their band. We were so lucky to have a life with her.
'Individually and together, we cherished Christine deeply and are thankful for the amazing memories we have. She will be so very missed.'
Stevie Nicks shared the statement to her own Twitter account this evening.
The British-American rock band was one of the most successful groups of all time, selling 100 million records globally.
McVie joined Fleetwood Mac in 1971 as a permanent member, and the band achieved even greater popularity with the addition of Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham in the mid-1970s.

“ The crowd dancing and celebrating Clinton’s to Fleetwood Mac exemplifies the fall of our nation and there’s a direct line to today woke totalitarianism.”
Post hoc ergo propter hoc fallacy
you forgot MoTown, but you’re still wrong about all of it: it was RAP that did us in ...
No, I knew it then.
I was about 30 and it was sickening. I felt disgusted.
But, even if you are right, tracing back to see how things collapsed is good.
Your making a priori assumptions because you like something.
I get the sense you’re hoping to be asked what music you yourself like to listen to (presuming there is any), and what music you consider not to be intent on destroying the nation.
“IMO the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame did a disservice to Bob Welch when they omitted mention of his contributions to Fleetwood Mac.”
I agree with you.
Not everything is nefarious.
“Mystery To Me” kinda blew my mind back in ‘73.
I liked “Bare Trees,” as well.
Absolutely
Thanks for those links. Very good singer indeed.
So funny because for the most part Fleetwood Mac is mainstream whitebread stuff. Hardly the stuff of rebellion and moral decline.
Hold Me
Great band and an awesome career... RIP.
You young whippersnappers...
It was fluoridation of drinking water.
Wow. 79... I feel so old.
RIP
Oh no, RIP Christine. You had such a beautiful voice & spirit.
Explain in detail how Fleetwood Mac led to the nation’s decline. I need specifics not a leftist thought process that makes no sense.
Stevie Nicks supports the troops and has for quite awhile including visits to Bethesd since 2005.
Weird I’ve been hearing some commercial with her singing a song “i want to be with you and you” from Fleetwood Mac. I had to look it up as I never heard the song before. It’s actually called “I want to be with you everywhere“. It bothers me as the vocal line doesn’t flow with saying “everywhere” at the end. Kind of ruins the melody. Weird I don’t remember ever hearing this song when it was first released when I was in high school in 1987. RIP Christy Mcvie.
You know those old vibrator belt things that the user would put around their waist in an effort to lose fat in that area?
Nicks singing voice reminded me of those gadgets. Her constant warbling as she sung didn’t impress me at all. But then I’m a fan of my wife’s beautiful voice.
