Christine McVie, the co-lead vocalist, songwriter and keyboardist of Fleetwood Mac, has died aged 79 following a 'short illness', her family have revealed.
In a statement, McVie's family said she was 'a revered musician who was loved universally' and was surrounded by loved ones when she died.
'She passed away peacefully at hospital this morning, Wednesday, November 30th following a short illness. She was in the company of her family.
'We kindly ask that you respect the family's privacy at this extremely painful time and we would like everyone to keep Christine in their hearts and remember the life of an incredible human being.'
Her former bandmates said tonight they're devastated by the loss, describing her as 'the best friend anyone could have in their life'.
'She was truly one-of-a-kind, special and talented beyond measure... She was the best musician anyone could have in their band. We were so lucky to have a life with her.
'Individually and together, we cherished Christine deeply and are thankful for the amazing memories we have. She will be so very missed.'
Stevie Nicks shared the statement to her own Twitter account this evening.
The British-American rock band was one of the most successful groups of all time, selling 100 million records globally.
McVie joined Fleetwood Mac in 1971 as a permanent member, and the band achieved even greater popularity with the addition of Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham in the mid-1970s.

Bands like that led to our nation’s demise.
She and Fleetwood Mac had a small revival recently with Chevrolet putting “Everywhere” in their commercials and Christine McVie singing.
I believe you seeing that Bill Clinton liked them.
RIP, Songbird. Stevie Nicks got all the glory but Christine deserved an equal share.
Stevie gave me the creeps. But Christine was ok.
Nah, it was The Beatles’ long hair.
Nope, it was Elvis’ gyrating hips.
Hmmm...no, it was swing and all that wild dancing.
Er, no, it was the scat jazz and blues by negroes.
Um, no, it was Tin Pan Alley. That was it, for sure.
God Bless Christine McV.
OMG, it was that darned rock and roll stuff that ruined the country /s

Sad to hear. She was extremely talented and an infectious personality.
Ironically, there’s been an ad on TV a lot recently that is based on what of her vocals, Everywhere I think it is.
Rest in peace Christy Mc-V.
RIP girl. Thanks for the music.
Nah, it’s been nothing but Satanic mind infecting crap since Gregorian chant went out of style

Seems to me that “short illness” is a standard moniker for “cause of death undisclosed”.
Baroque! Let’s not even get started on Baroque! That led directly to Barack and we know how that turned out.
