A new study has claimed that potatoes could be the key to helping people lose weight.
Previously, the vegetable has been linked to an increase in the risk of type two diabetes, those who have insulin resistance have been warned against consuming them.
Results from a new study suggest this may not be true.

Scientists say they are full of nutrients and if portioned correctly can be part of a healthy diet.
US researchers recruited 36 people between the ages of 18 and 60who were overweight, obese or have Insulin resistance.
Insulin resistance is when cells in the muscles, fat and liver struggle to respond to insulin and cannot easily take up glucose from the blood.
The participants were given diets consisting of either beans, peas, and meat or fish - or white potatoes with meat or fish.
Both of the diets substituted an estimated 40 per cent of the average meat consumption with beans, peas or potatoes.
The vegetable was brought into meals such as shepherd’s pie, or came as a side of mash, wedges or salad.
They found the outcomes of the diets including potatoes were just as healthy as others.
Professor Candida Rebello, the co-investigator, from Pennington Biomedical Research Centre in Louisiana said: "We demonstrated that contrary to common belief, potatoes do not negatively impact blood glucose levels."
They found that certain amounts of food will cause people to feel full, regardless of the calorie count.

By filling a plate with potatoes as opposed to foods with a higher calorie count, scientists suggested this would eventually help people lose weight.
Prof Rebello added: “People tend to eat the same weight of food regardless of calorie content in order to feel full.
"By eating foods with a heavier weight that are low in calories, you can easily reduce the number of calories you consume.
"The key aspect of our study is that we did not reduce the portion size of meals but lowered their caloric content by including potatoes.
"Each participant's meal was tailored to their personalised calorific needs, yet by replacing some meat content with potato, participants found themselves fuller, quicker, and often did not even finish their meal. In effect, you can lose weight with little effort."
Not if carbs are your problem with weight gain.
Been there, done that.
We brown some bacon, then halve the Brussel sprouts and stir fry them in the bacon fat with onions added after a few minutes.
Then add the bacon back in.
So far it’s been a big hit.

Nonsense.
Anyone with type 2 can see the results in their next blood test after a potato meal.
“foods with a higher calorie count,” Not even sure what that means. Peas and potatoes with skins are similar in calories...boiled potatoes are much less. Dang few folks eat plain boiled taters. But even so, the carbs will be higher.
Penn (of Penn & Teller) went on an all potato diet. I think he ate 3 large ones a day & lost a pound a day. He ate them plain, without even salt & pepper. I heard he commented that after three weeks you can discern the difference in flavor of a really good potato!
Not unless the loaded means cricket crunch.
I demand my cricket crunch. Healthy breakfast, too!
For starters, a potato is NOT a vegetable...
The appropriate handling for Brussels Sprouts is to purchase a box of Ferrero Rocher candies wrapped in gold foil. Each candy is the size of a brussels sprout. Carefully unwrap the candy and save for later. Carefully wrap a brussels sprout in the gold foil and replace in the candy box. It's a healthy substitution. :-)
Part of our Thanksgiving dinner included roasted vegetables. The brussells sprouts were brushed with garlic butter. Carrots, potatoes and onions as well.
According to science, cold potatoes, as in potato salad, are full of resistant starch, which passes through your gut without adding nearly as many calories as, say, a hot baked potato. By refrigerating the potatoes, a chemical change takes place. Resistant starch is a type of fiber.
People that say they hate Brussels Sprouts have never had them raw. They are actually very good raw. Just cut them in half, peel away the outer layers and pop them into your mouth.
Have to think about it...
I’m feeling pretty good about my own tack:
I’ve been on the ‘french fry’ & ‘ice cream’ ‘diet’ for months now.
No joke and no surprise. Just understand what happens to the potatoes and it makes perfect sense (evidence is at the scale).
Thanks for the reminder: I’m out of potatoes ;-)

bacon cheeseburgers are health food
This is better news for me than chocolate and coffee are healthy. My favorite food.
That sounds good! They’re good sauteed in bacon grease with bacon bits, and garlic.
Before or after you turn them into vodka?
Interesting article. not.
I recall when it was said to drink water before a meal, to fill up. This study has replaced water with potatoes. Why are they pushing potatoes instead of, celery, sprouts or M&Ms?
Yes, a relative went on the potato diet...lost over 100lbs. Potatoes of all kinds...but, nothing on them. Maybe salt. You could daily have as many as you wanted. He could definitely distinguish the flavor of different potatoes and had his preference. Diet was ONLY potatoes, nothing else.
Blood work showed vast improvements. I do think there was some vitamin he had to take. But, potatoes have everything else he needed.
I lost a lot of weight at one time, by microwaving one potato with skin, soft boiling 3 eggs, and slicing the tators first, salt, pepper and bust the eggs over the pile... mmmmm lunch was turkey ham on bread with olive oil mayo, dinner was small with chicken and veggies and a 3 mile walk after.
