It’s a good idea. I went through the closets at my office after a layoff and found 400k worth of gear some useless nincompoop had purchased but never inventoried or sent to the data center, instead hoarding it for 18 months while my team scrambled for budget scraps. We inherited the office space and I noticed the closets were jammed full of stuff including unopened boxes so it seemed reasonable to go through it, when we found the goodies I promptly tagged it into our inventory and told accounting it was “salvaged”.
