That’s a B- level Florida Man story. Lack of booze and alligators and ride-on lawn mowers, but a bad explanation that tends to evoke sympathy for the perpetrator raises it a bit.
I know Gainesville well from my law school days and many visits since then, and I know that WalMart well. In a college town stuffed with crazies of all stripes, that particular WalMart seems to be especially attractive to them.

I don’t see why a thief couldn’t do the same with any store they want to rob, just produce a fake lease and say, this store and everything in it are mine, here is my fake lease!
