Also, if you take your car to the beach, make sure you pay attention too when high tide is and keep your car away from the waterline.

Too late, the air has salt water in it, and it will work its magic over time.

Some POs used Pintos for mail delivery. Because of that lawsuit the mail carriers union threatened to violate Federal law and to on strike unless the cars were replaced. Eventually they were replaced with the AM General Jeeps converted to right hand drive.

Fortunately, there’s not enough lithium on the planet to convert to EVs. Boondoggle.

>>mention road salt

I was in Massachusetts for two years. The road salt is present year round when it rains.

Lithium just needs plain water to catalyze a combustion reaction with free hydrogen and oxygen. Salt water works also.

“I watch Scotty’s videos a lot.” Scotty is great. Toyota’s make the best engine and Mercedes get the most repairs. And when it comes to car repairs, he always says, “You can do it. It’s easy.” Well, electric cars are the feel-good story for the day but silly physics. My friend drove his electric Mustang 300 miles and stopped halfway for a charge. 2.5 hours is what the charge needed. No way electric cars can replace diesel vehicles.

My second cousin, a very smart and attractive girl, was burned up in a Pinto. Rainstorm, left the road for an unknown reason and hit a tree.

Remember all of the Ford Crown Victoria cop cars that burned?

Early this year I passed a Lincoln SUV driven into a tree. Two fatalities (in the opposite lane of a divided four lane) that a speeding driver drove into a tree. Two burned to death.

From the news, with no facts to support it, I gather that there are many more car fires than we saw years ago. I believe part of that is due to the very hot items required by the EPA.

Look up the specs on a diesel EGR (exhaust gas regenerator) for example. Check the temp on a turbo. All can ignite leaking fuel.

Liability with a capital “L”.

Look it up in an online dictionary now and this exact situation is described.

When a gasoline powered car ignites most of the energy is burned above the car in the flames in an oxygen environment essential for combustion. All the energy in a battery pack is in the battery pack and needs no oxygen. Thus, that fire is more difficult to contain.

I saw about a 4 sentence story buried in the newspaper years ago by NTSB(?) saying that when they actually researched it, the Pinto was less likely to catch fire than its foreign competitors. Naturally, that tiny blip was the whole extent of the press the story got. We can’t mess up the narrative.

Exactly. It is a chemically combusted fire, not dependent on temperature or a short to make it happen.
