Vanity: Thank you for your service, but....
11/9/2022 | By Laz A. Mataz

Donald Trump is my favorite President, even more so than Ronald Reagan.

However, I think I’m moving on from him.

I like him in the role of a clarion-calling standard bearer, and his presidency was the best I have ever seen.

I don’t like him in terms of his failure to be a team player. I’m not even sure I like him as a kingmaker. Calling out numbers to make him look good, in a severely-disappointing election shows me he doesn’t care about the boots on the ground, but only how he looks.

Reagan faced the same Establishment hate and Media mocking, but he had a great way of playful rebuttal, with a twinkle in his eye and a little smile. America loved that. All the attacks mustered against him, failed, because he was able to gently turn it around on his attacker with a witty quip or a well thought out fact.

Reagan was also the author of the phrase, the 11th commandment, which was “Thou shall not attack a fellow Republican.”

Trump, on the other hand, has a serious ego problem. He cannot resist getting into a public verbal fight with anyone who criticizes him. While this was fresh and new in 2016, and propelled him into the presidency, it doesn’t work in 2022.

Also, the way Trump fights back is not nearly as good as Reagan’s style. Trump hasn’t got the charm of Reagan, and it’s beginning to hurt our side.

It is for these reasons that I must move on from Donald Trump. Sir, thank you for your incredibly wonderful service in 2016 through 2020. You made those years prosperous and sane. But it is time to move on.

I’m likely to get a ton of flak for this post. That’s okay, I can take it.

“I’m sticking with Trump though until he chooses to step aside. The RINOs just want to use DeSantis to land some punches to hurt Trump in 2024 and hurt Ron’s future chances by alienating the MAGA base.”

I 100% agree!!!

"And as a side note, I keep hoping Trump will do a course-correction."

Someone changing their style is not a course correction, it's a personality transplant.

Even if he tried, he has already established his position in people's minds. Too late.

Trump's strengths are his weaknesses. He is one hell of a fighter!

With all of the division within the Republican party I am skeptical about our country ever being anything but like a banana republic. As it is the cartridge box is the necessary treatment for the corruption of our voting system.

“You are basing your opinion on news releases.”

That might be true for the general population, but for us FReepers, not so much. When Trump says ridiculous and childish things on video, that’s when our opinions are formed. “DeSancitimonious”. [smh]

Well put, Laz, and I’m with you. We could have easily sewed up the Senate had Trump endorsed Mark Brnovich in AZ and McCormick in Pennsylvania.

I belong to my local Republicans
…I go to meetings, I sign up to volunteer….and have for years.
I put my heart and energy in it.

Yesterday during the beginnings of a tropical storm/ie hurricane Nicole, I was out at the voter precinct trying to keep our tent from blowing away.

After over 2 hours of this a member of our executive committee drove up to. check on our progress.
He was chatting with our small group…..
..suddenly he was aggressively stating we should turn our attention to Ron DeSantis for President.
I countered him with
‘Trump’s endorsement’ brought Ron to the party 4 years ago, where is your loyalty????
He didn’t care what I said and kept pushing ….
..my friend said ‘this could divide the Republicans’
He didn’t care
He said ‘it was Ron’s time’
I was sick at my stomach!

Obviously the corrupt powers that be, and the billionaires have decided.
Trump is to be pushed aside, hoping Ron will win.
Ted Cruz Redux!

I was sick hearing this yesterday and I am sick hearing it from you Laz and your groupies.

You will help destroy what is left of this country.
May God forgive you….

You're welcome.

I am a simple American, who loves God, my family, my country, and my job. I want peace, prosperity, and the freedom and liberty to make my way and my own mistakes.

I doubt Trump is reading my posts. If he was, he'd tell me I'm fired.

But Trump morphed from a Manhattan RINO to MAGA, in part because he HAD to, in order to win. If he gets smacked upside the head and realizes his Achilles will doom 2024, maybe he changes.

I doubt it. But I've seen miracles. The future isn't fixed.

Great analysis. I could not agree more.

Like you, I voted for him twice and whole heartedly believe in the MAGA movement. But I vote issues, not people. The Movement is Make America Great Again. It is NOT Make Trump Great Again.

I appreciate everything Trump did for us but now the very country I love is under attack from the forces of progressivism and wokeism. Trump's contributions were invaluable and history will be very kind to him generations from now once the current crop of academics and media die off.

Until then, we need to keep on with the MAGA movement but with a different messenger.

I am with you. I am ashamed to say it but Trump let us down. Although Trump was a great President, not better than Reagan, he was not a team player. Look to Florida to see how a team wins. 45 should have stopped the grandstanding and poured resources into Pa and Ga. We got a De Sactimoniuos and not a single not a single Fetterlump. Trump has shown himself to be just a different version of Mitch, McFlake, and Mutt.

Republicans like to pre-lose. They like to telegraph their bending at the knee before they even lose.

I moved on after “15 days to flatten the curve”. Trump could have fired Fauci. He chose not to, and threw away his presidency In the summer of 2020 he rage tweeted “Law and order1!1!,”

He hired the swamp, and acted surprised when the swamp threw him under the bus.

Elections with mail in voting and no identification will never be free and fair. So be it.
This country is NOT a serious nation.

Less than 50% voter turnout yesterday in Miami-Dade. Trump got over 100k more votes than Desantis in Miami-Dade.

It was the Democrat shills that didn’t show up to the polls in 2022 that will be there in 2024. Everyone anointing DeSantis the savior bc he ran a good state-wide election in a midterm pump the brakes. Rubio ran on par with DeSantis in Miami-Dade and trump held a rally for him days before the election.

Republicans need to come together, not all this division being perpetuated by the media, including Fox.

“Where else are you going to go?” is what we were told when we had to support Dole, McCain, and Romney because of the alternative. AND WE LOST.

Trump putting himself in that position is a recipe for defeat.

We need a candidate with fire in the belly and an ability to win new votes and change the landscape.

Reagan did that. Trump did that in 2016. Trump can’t do that in 2024. DeSantis can and has just proven it.
