A Tennessee State University professor has been fired after a video surfaced that showed him screaming at a student and telling him to leave after he failed his course, the school says.
History professor Robert Evins Pickard was recorded shouting in the students face before expelling him from the classroom.
In the video, which has gone viral on various social media platforms, Pickard can be heard screaming 'What is your name?' at the student.
He then shouts 'Get out! You have failed this course, whatever your name is! Out! Out!'
The University said in a statement on Tuesday that Pickard has been terminated from his position on the staff.
'The University is aware of the incident identified in the video clip being distributed in the media, including on social media. TSU does not tolerate unprofessional behavior in its classrooms or otherwise directed at students,' the statement said.
'This incident runs afoul of the standard of behavior we expect from those charged with teaching and serving as role models for our students,' they added.
'The University has taken swift action, including personnel action, to address this incident and the faculty member shown in the video was immediately removed from the classroom and has been terminated.'
Pickard has said he offered his resignation to the University after the incident occurred and is now officially retired.
He told local station WSMV that he 'deeply regrets' what happened in the classroom that day.

Second it's a good thing these little snowflakes didn't go to college when I was there. I've seen some very irate professors throw rude students out of the class. This is not high school, this is college people.
The student will “pass” nonetheless.
Looks like the targeted student was a protected minority. Big mistake in this day and age.
Agree though, that tirades like this were not unusual in the chemistry curriculum when I was in school in the 80’s
LOL, I can see we were all thinking the same thing.
I’ll bet there’s more to the story than what appears in the video.
That’s a professor I’d love to have had.
He holds history very sacred. The way a lot of people hold their marriage sacred.
“Looks like the targeted student was a protected minority. Big mistake in this day and age.”
What is worse he probably was failing and was acting a fool during class time, probably did not know the subject matter, got to college by way of affirmative action.
I remember ads back in the day by the “United Negro College fund” saying “A mind is a terrible thing to waste”. Problem in these days that ad needs to be ran for the kids in Kindergarten not college.
These videos never show what led up to the behavior shown. The professor obviously lost it and was unprofessional, but it might be more understandable if we knew the whole story.
I know there is more to this story! Who wants to bet the kid was acting a fool, not doing homework, failed all exams and still expected to pass? You know “every kid gets a trophy”.
That is not how college and real life works.
I remember that Woody Hayes actually taught an American History class at Ohio State. I’d hate to think what he would have done if someone failed his class, LOL.
I’ll play the devil’s advocate here. Hopefully, the professor had high standards. And if the kid failed, he failed. But the student paid a hefty tuition to take that class. He deserves at least a minimum amount of consideration.
Of course, there might be more to this story. For example, did the kid miss a lot of lectures? Was he a jerk when he was in class?
Said student will now be given a passing grade of 93% and graduates the course. And since his sensibilities have been hurt, maybe they will just graduate him from the college early with a passing grade and give him his degree. Hell, that sounds like my dad back in the 60’s when I brought home a grade he was unhappy with.
Sounds like he had a bad day, before it got worse.
“These videos never show what led up to the behavior shown.”
Yes and that is unfair. Just by the way that professor was shouting I can tell the little punk did something.
If he failed the course, why did he show up for class? I would have yelled at him for that.
