One ticket in New York matched all five white balls, winning $1 million dollars, according to the Powerball website. There was also another ticket sold in the state that matched the white balls and included the Power Play option, which ups the winnings to $2 million overall for that ticketholder.

Nationwide, there were 10 million-dollar tickets that matched all five white ball numbers, and three that did the same with the Power Play. There were also 134 tickets sold across the country that won a $50,000 prize in Monday night's drawing, and another 23 tickets that won a $150,000 prize.

Certainly not bad consolation prizes

The big jackpot is now 1.2 billion.

I'll buy a ticket, but there is a sucker born every moment, since it seems the really big winners, are always from blue states.

And here I mortgaged my house to buy 10000 tickets, because it was such a sure thing.

How many times can one get struck by lightning before hitting this jackpot?

Dunno.

But will get a couple tickets.

Re: Buy gold

Incredibly - during the last two years of political and economic chaos - the price of gold has gone down 21%.

It would be a double edged sword winning. Family and long lost friends showing up for handouts. Financial advisors with β€œcan’t miss!” schemes. It would be fun to give it away, though.

Financial advisors with β€œcan’t miss!” schemes.

I'm always amazed by people who suddenly fall into some enormous jackpot and then go chasing after some crazy "get rich quick" scheme. Dude, you are rich. Don't chase. Buy gold. Buy T-bills. Something solid and safe. But no, they want to invest in some new casino in North Dakota or something. Can't miss. Double your money in three years. I promise!

I will occasionally buy a PowerBall ticket. It’s paying $2 to dream.

I will tithe the winnings. But to which church? All to one? Spread It around?

It sometimes becomes daunting to answer that question.

I tell my wife, if we win big, my new job will be spending the day finding people who really need it and thinking of creative ways to give it away.

State lotteries are a tax on those who flunked simple math. However, despite that fact I buy a quick pick ticket of Powerball or Mega Millions when the jackpot reached $350 million. Buying one ticket increases my chances of winning from 0 in 25 million to 1 in 25 million.

And there would also be swarms of attractive young women . . . I’ll take my chances with the burdens of having several hundred million dollars in cash.

Only paper gold and silver have decreased - hard currency in hand is still up. For example paper silver is running around $18/oz today, but a silver eagle in hand is running around $30-32.
