Following his takeover of Twitter, Tesla CEO Elon Musk reportedly had Tesla engineers review Twitter’s software code and prevented Twitter engineers from making further changes.
Bloomberg reports that on Thursday, Elon Musk arrived at Twitter offices to officially confirm his company takeover after the $44 billion purchase deal closed. As part of his takeover, Musk fired top executives including CEO Parag Agrawal, CFO Ned Segal, and Vijaya Gadde, head of legal policy, trust, and safety. The company’s general counsel, Sean Edgett, was also let ago according to sources and all were promptly escorted out of the company’s offices in San Francisco.

Now, that is art.
I agree!
“ My running assumption is that any changes to code is logged for time and date?”
That’s right. And without exception. Every change (called a “commit”), even if it’s just the addition of a comma, is logged with the commiter’s name, a timestamp and the exact change the commiter made. Contrary to what some are saying no rogue engineer can slip something in without the knowledge of others. For one since every member of a group or members from other groups work with the same codebase, any change ever made by anyone is visible to everyone else. Secondly before any change can be committed to the main line of the code it has to go through a review and approval process where one or more members of the team, other than the person making the change, has to review and sign off on the change. There are no secrets. Code changes in professional settings are a very tightly controlled process. Especially in major tech companies whose products are used by millions. This is not to say there can’t be anything in the code that’s biased against conservatives. It’s very possible but it will be there *by design* and management will be aware of it.
Love it!
>> I know one thing. Software Engineers are very jealous.
I’ll let you in on a little secret. Many of what you call “software engineers” — those who really get off on “coding” — are basically high functioning autistics. I R one, that’s how I know. “Jealousy” and its close cousin defensiveness are just a few of the manifestations of that tweaked coder personality.
Many eventually learn their way out of the worst of their personality quirks — I’d like to think I did, over the years — although unfortunately some never do.
Great anecdote, by the way. I’m glad you had fun with it. Normal people can code too! :-)
IF they wrote code they way they checked tweets that’ll be an ugly task
True that
Perfect

It was fun learning to write the code. Did a Loy of copy paste though..
You rock
You presume it was a professional setting
>> Did a lot of copy paste though.
Shhhhh... make it into a GOOD thing, call it “code reuse”... lol
Yeah, I could see that. Some things you just don't do.
They’re using code repos like Git or Atlassian. Everything is tracked down to spelling changes. I’m not saying it’s impossible, but it’s highly unlikely that anything nefarious could happen. Too many eyes on their systems. Change control is a thing.
The problem is they’ve had months to rewrite the code to hide the evidence.
Had there been a sudden takeover of Twitter WITHOUT WARNING in say, January - how much does anybody wanna bet they would have found all kinds of malfeasance and overt leftist censorship in the code?
One of the smartest first moves I’ve ever seen done in a buyot/takeover. Who knows what boobytraps they could have put in the code or what they may have been hiding from him. Very shrewd move on Elon’s part.
I love how former Twitter software engineers are saying the code is too complicated and advanced for Telsa software engineers to understand. MMMM, more complicated then making cars drive themselves? More complicated then a space rocket? More complicated then hundreds of satellites communicating between themselves to coordinate internet traffic from anywhere on the planet to anywhere else on the planet? Me thinks the Twitter Engineers think too highly of themselves...... I also think that Twitter engineers job was so easy that they spent most of the day reading Tweets and banning those they did not like. And built bots to promote political causes!
How the mighty have fallen
IT folks all know there’s a little thing for public companies called “SOX Compliancy”. If anyone bypassed the change-control/approval process, it would be... very, very bad.
