Here are some of the oddities I have run across lately, including a Cuban zombie film!
why watch horror movies? Just watch the news!
Another decent Nic Cage film is
Season of the Witch
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0479997/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_3
“A 14th-century Crusader returns to a homeland devastated by the Black Plague. A beleaguered church, deeming sorcery the culprit of the plague, commands the two knights to transport an accused witch to a remote abbey, where monks will perform a ritual in hopes of ending the pestilence. A priest, a grieving knight, a disgraced itinerant, and a headstrong youth who can only dream of becoming a knight join a mission troubled by mythically hostile wilderness and fierce contention over the fate of the girl. When the embattled party arrives at the abbey, a horrific discovery jeopardises the knight’s pledge to ensure the girl fair treatment, and pits them against an inexplicably powerful and destructive force”
My thoughts exactly....👍
Takashi Miike is one of the weirdest directors out there. I saw that one in the theater! Laughed my butt off.
Several that would be nominated for a repeat performance, all from the past:
The Wolfen (early 1980s) Horror of wolfman tatics and Sherlock Holmes detective work clues. tarring Albert Finney.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wolfen_(film)
Mimic (1997) Maria Sorvino stars as a scientist who attempts
to save the city’s children, in error makes mankind the victim of VERY LARGE roaches. When that man in a raincoat showed himself to be a roach with sharp, pointed appendages, try stepping on it!

The Deadly Mantis (1978)
The genre began with King Kong. William Hopper, Craig Stevens, and the coffee lady always smiling as she serves the
men coffee. People accused them of being insane, too. He who laughs last......

Lovecraftian
Here is a fun parody of the Lovecraftian mythos.
The Last Lovecraft: Relic of Cthulhu
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1522262/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0
“Jeff is an ordinary guy that is stuck at a dead end job with a boring life, but when a strange old man gives him an Ancient relic and tells him that he is the last bloodline of H.P. Lovecraft, He and his friend Charlie embark on an adventure to protect the relic piece from falling into the hands of the Starspawn and his minions that wish to reunite the relic and release Cthulhu back into the world.”
Good picks, but try “All Hallows Eve” and it’s sequel, “Terrifier”. (Both free on Tubi). Who doesn’t love a psychotic killer clown during Halloween?
I did theater with a woman in that movie.
Ghost Ship
The scene where the cable snaps across the dance floor. yikes!
“Killer Klowns from Outerspace” is one to avoid.
Yes. Based on a Japanese film called “Ringu”.
The American remake of Ringu was as good as the original.
Not scary scary but dark movies but enjoyable.
Also - Ringu. The American remake is also excellent.
Also Quarantine (2008) with Jennifer Carpenter is a gem.
Rat-Boy
Creature from the Black Lagoon
90 Foot Woman
Silence of the Lambs
Dahmer
Diabolique (original French version.)
In Cold Blood
Psycho
Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein
A third vote for Lost Skeleton of Cadavra. One favorite game is to sit an unsuspecting friend down and ask them at what point they figured out it was a parody. For me it was when Ranger Brad said, "We take our horrible mutilations seriously up in these parts." Always a good policy.
Island of Terror 1966
Scared the crap out of me as a kid. Bone eating critters from Red China
