With EV adoption on the horizon, many still have range and charging anxiety. Will there be a charger available where I’m going? Will it give me enough juice to get back home? These are the questions a lot of potential EV owners are asking. Now, Lucid should be able to offer some reassurance to Air owners, thanks to a new home charger that can deliver up to 80 miles of range per hour plugged in.
The company released the new charger as part of its line of new Lucid vehicle accessories. Called the Lucid Connected Home Charging Station, it makes a big promise: using AC charging and capable of supporting up to 19.2 kWh, it can deliver up to 80 miles of range per hour.

I have great respect for the utility guys. They trimmed a tree for us that we were getting rid of anyways, for free! They didn’t have to, we just asked them while they were outside doing other required trimming and he did!...............

You are really on to something here, IMHO. I remember when I was in Alaska how everyone would have two outdoor plug-ins. One for the freeze plug and one for the battery blanket on their vehicle. It never fails, some clown always had to throw an interior car heater into the mix. Terror was waking up in the morning and seeing all the little indicator lights were off on people’s connections because some clown knocked off the breaker with their interior heater.

One month into working my first utility job we had a massive ice storm. I worked 17 straight 16 hour shifts.

I figured you wouldn’t understand, but others here certainly do.
It is aggravating enough for the 10-minute oil change to take 15 minutes, so how many are going to be patient when it takes hours to fully charge their EVs?
Until some type of swappable elements are developed, I don’t see EVs gaining a lot of traction in the Big Sky areas of the US.
But then, the TV/Hollywood industries have tried to make 3-D a reality at least 3 times in the last 70 years — each time failing. [I think it is those colored eyeglasses.]
They actually brag about this? And not to mention doing this to a battery is going to lead to fires. I can add 400 miles without risking burning my house down.
Of course, what they don’t tell you is that is in ideal temperature conditions. In cold winter weather, you can halve that.
20 Amps is a good start. These high-speed chargers need at least 60 Amps/240V.
That’s likely a panel upgrade, perhaps a new transformer and drop to the house, and big money to get NEW wiring to this magic wall charger.
Full disclosure — I OWN an EV and am a realist. When we built this house 7 years ago we wired the garage AND THE PANEL for this 60 Amp/240V circuit. It would be REALLY expensive (like $4-5K overall) to get this enabled after the fact. (construction, wiring, drywall, paint and the charger.)
PS we also own two gasoline powered vehicles, including an F-150 with a nearly 700 mile range (factory extended range fuel tanks.)
My 2,500SF house has no place to put solar that doesn’t face north.
