Scrap yards tend to deal in cash a lot. They also tend to be armed.
This has some interesting angles for a True Crime addicts.
They were going to “Hit a Lick” and everybody would make bank. The bodies were visible from the road.
This reminds me of that time with the two little girls were murdered just down the road.
Some years ago they found a woman from Oregon cut up there too.
Residents in Okmulgee are in shock after learning that last week’s search for four men who disappeared Sunday, Oct. 9, ended in a murder investigation.
Monday afternoon, FOX23 spent time talking with residents in downtown Okmulgee following Police Chief Joe Prentice’s press conference.
“The human remains recovered from the Deep Fork River at the Sharp Road Bridge have been positively identified as Mark Chastain, Billy Chastain, Mike Sparks, and Alex Stevens,” Prentice said during the press conference.
He also said that although the official cause of death is still pending, each victim suffered gunshot wounds, and all four bodies were dismembered before being placed in the river.
Prentice said he talked with the family members of the four victims before speaking with media.
“I think that they had already resolved themselves that this was their loved ones, but the additional information about dismemberment was obviously a shock, and they were very distraught,” Prentice said.
Based on the information gathered during the course of the investigation, Prentice added that investigators believe the men planned to commit some type of criminal act when they left a residence at West 6th street on bikes Oct. 9.
Neither their bikes nor the weapon used in the shooting have been recovered at this time.
Investigators had been searching a scrap and salvage yard owned by Joe Kennedy, whom police are describing as a “person of interest,” but no charges have been filed.
Evidence of a violent event was discovered on an adjoining property to one of the two salvage yards.
Prentice said investigators want to talk to Kennedy again, but he was reported missing Saturday night and may be suicidal.
Maybe the junk yard owner has a reputation for dealing in cash?
Anyway, on the flip side, it is hard to believe that just one guy could kill four young criminals all by himself without getting injured or wounded, then, dismember, transport, and dispose of the body parts.
Who goes to rob a junkyard on bicycles?
Maybe they all had DUI’s and couldn’t drive...I mean after all, it’s Oklahoma.
My grandfather owned an Auto Salvage Yard. If four grown ass men on a weekend nighttime bicycle ride came into his yard in the middle of the night, he wouldn’t have to shoot them because his wrecking yard guard dogs would have chewed them to pieces. I rank my grandfather as very high on a Better not F With Me scale.

Has anyone thought to check the whereabouts of Billie Joe McAllister?
He’s one for throwing things off of bridges. ;)
When I first saw that movie, I had to cry BS on that one. a 5000 lb Caddie in the bed of a Ford Falcon? Seriously?
They cancelled their Facebook memberships? Twitter?
Nice mug shots.
I’m sorry they will miss Thanksgiving this year.

Police say a person of interest in the slayings of four Okmulgee men has been arrested by Florida authorities. Joe Kennedy was arrested in Daytona Beach Shores in a stolen vehicle that was reported stolen to the Okmulgee County Sheriff's Office on Monday, according to a news release from Okmulgee Police Chief Joe Prentice. Prentice said Kennedy will be held on a $500,000 bond in connection to a 2012 felony shooting case.
Authorities are working on getting Kennedy from detention in Florida back to Okmulgee County, Prentice said.
"The murder investigation is ongoing, and investigators continue to follow leads every day. Additional information will be relayed when it is available."
Prentice confirmed in a news conference Monday that the dismembered bodies of Mark Chastain, 32, Billy Chastain, 30, Mike Sparks, 32, and Alex Stevens, 29, were recovered Friday and that each man had gunshot wounds.
“We believe the men planned to commit some type of criminal act,” Prentice said, adding that the four left on bicycles from an Okmulgee residence on West Sixth Street. According to Prentice, investigators were told the four had invited a witness to “hit a lick” that reportedly would have provided enough loot to be split among the group. The term refers to a targeted theft or robbery. The bicycles were reportedly outfitted with small trailer carts, but Prentice said none of the four bikes have been found.
Police reportedly discovered evidence of a violent event while searching a salvage yard on 20th Street, along with surrounding properties. Kennedy is the owner of the salvage yard, according to authorities.
“it is hard to believe that just one guy could kill four young criminals all by himself”
Well, I imagine he probably got the drop on them and they agreed to be restrained, thinking that he was just going to call the cops.
Whatever the case, it appears the world is a slightly better place.
“ What puzzles me is: what are you thinking to steal from a junkyard that you will be able to haul away on bicycles”
Catalytic converters would be my guess. The last set of 4 we sold off of a 95-01 Explorer brought just short of $1K.
