A pass interference call wiped out a crucial interception for the Crimson Tide in the loss at Tennessee.
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Alabama has officially been penalized more than any other team in the country.
After the Crimson Tide got called for a program-record 17 penalties Saturday against Tennessee, it's no surprise that penalties were a major theme of Nick Saban's Monday press conference.
Whether it be pass interference, which wiped out a game-sealing interception for the second week in a row, or pre-snap infractions, or special teams penalties that negated big gains, Saban is frustrated with it all.
Depending on the type of infraction, whether or not to throw a flag is a judgement call by the officials in college football, which Saban understands, but the main thing he's asking for his consistency among the officials, particularly when it comes to pass interference.
"Look, my big thing is just consistency," Saban said when asked if he thought pass intereference should be reviewable. "Just call it the same for everybody. And it’s hard to define exactly what you can and can’t do. I would rather see that happen. In the NFL, they defined exactly what you can and can’t do and it’s a really, really difficult judgement call, but you knew exactly what you could and couldn’t do. I think that would be beneficial."

Re: 15 - Yeah, awful missed call.
Use the instant replay
There were 17 calls against Alabama. There weren’t 17 bad calls against them. They earned the vast majority of them.
I went to an SEC school and agree. It’s always good to have a West Virginia or Boston College win the title, mixing it up a bit is good for business.
Otherwise if it’s a team from the same conference every time it gets boring.
Good thing that game was in the SEC because if it had been in any other conference, the critics would complain that they don't play defense.
Florida Fans, “What’s a defense?”
The college or the girls?
More time for commercials......it’s capitalism /s
“FSU....FSU....Where the girls are girls, and the guys are too!”
Aflac Commercials.
Even on the winning field goal, the TN kicker was moving before the snap. He wasn’t set. That should have been a penalty.
I have no idea how that kick even made it, I thought when it first left, there’s no way it will clear the crossbar.
That is true.
It was an ugly kick.
And I am not whining about the loss. Bama played poorly enough to lose.
Be more worried about that Ole Miss game.
I am worried about Miss State and Ole Miss. LSU may show up and beat them too. If Bama makes it to the SEC championship game, they wouldn’t be favored there either.
I enjoyed the game, even though I’m a tide fan, and even the calls at times.
Thing is, when they came back from 28-10 down, they looked like Bama. It’s consistency that seems to be their problem. I think it just took BY awhile to get back into the swing, as well. They do still control their destiny, but I would be more worried about what the Big 10 is throwing down this year, especially on the defensive side of the ball, SEC defenses don’t look particularly good in comparison.
Yes.
:)
Georgia does.
