Oregon's richest man said he would do whatever he could to end Democrats' 40-year hold on the state and prevent its nominee Tina Kotek winning the race to be the next governor.
Last week, Phil Knight, the billionaire co-founder of Nike, donated $1 million to Republican candidate Christine Drazan after bankrolling the campaign of an independent who has turned the election into a toss-up.
Analysts said his two-horse strategy suggested Knight was intent on keeping the Democrat out of the governor's mansion.
A swath of the electorate in this liberal state has turned on the outgoing Democratic governor, blaming her for woke policies that have allowed an explosion of crime, drug use and homelessness.
In a rare interview, Knight, 84, said he would do whatever it took to end the Democrat's stranglehold on power and described himself as 'an anti-Tina person.'
'One of the political cartoons after our legislative session had a person snorting cocaine out of a mountain of white,' he told the New York Times.
'It said, "Which of these is illegal in Oregon?" And the answer was the plastic straw.'
Before that, he had given $3.75 million to Betsy Johnson, running as an independent.
His money has turned the race into a close-fought contest.
Voters are flirting with electing the state's first Republican governor since 1982 -when Men at Work were at number one and the year Diet Coke was launched.
The most recent polls give Drazan a slight lead over Kotek, with Johnson, a former Democrat, attracting enough support to act as a significant spoiler.
A poll published on Wednesday by Clout Research, a GOP-linked firm, reported that Drazan held a five-point lead over Kotek.

Yep. Starting with this loser:
It could be…
Bout time...he is 84...I guess he finally figured it out..sheesh. I hope it helps...and I hope he puts money into the voter fraud problem...
I have not bought Nike in over 30 years...and I live in Oregon, and used to walk on their campus with hi tech friends in the a.m.
Yeah. He started Nike in Oregon thinking it would be a great place for business
Found out otherwise
“Phil Knight, the billionaire co-founder of Nike, donated $1 million to Republican candidate Christine Drazan”
A measly $1 million? Zuckerberg coughed up $420 million to steal the election form Trump.
Campaign finance laws are just for little people.
Will do. There will be BBQ, a band, other Republican candidates and Drazan will speak. Republicans can hardly believe we have a chance to win in Oregon. Spoiler candidate Betsey Johnson (20 years a Democrat in Oregon legislature) has dropped out and is running as an Independent. We have been close to winning in the past with a Trail Blazer player (name recognition helped).
Cross your fingers and give us a prayer. If she wins it will break up the West Coast governor cartel.
He knows the GOP will take the House.
Maybe even the Senate.
He is seeking favorable by the GOP.
Nothing more.
He might not be a fan of Colin Kaepernick but he knew he had to play the game and appeal to the urban audience who buys all the Air Jordan’s
He’s for wokeness until he’s directly affected by it. Like the people at Martha’s Vineyard.
I wonder if Phil laughs at felonated peoples killing each other for his sneakers.
Knight backing an R? Wow.
Agreed. WHether she wins or not depends on how stolen the elections are. OR is extremely corrupt, stolen elections for more than 20 years. All mail in, they admitted recently that the machines that count votes (I think Dominion or Smartmatic) are connected to the interent.
When you have lost Uncle Phil in Oregon you have lost everybody.
OR better come to jesus quick or half the state is moving to idaho …. Literally.
This is not Nike
Interesting...Very interesting...
