A fire can heat the bridge steel, weakening it to the point of collapse.

Steel will burn if you heat it enough: that’s how a cutting torch works.

Maybe it's a Russian general's vodka stash that spontaneously combusted?

Don't mean to condescend: a lot of people do not know.
Steel is a truly amazing material when you understand just how its properties can change as its crystal structure changes depending on carbon content, alloys and quench.

“Also going to depend upon the type steel.”
If it’s Russian steel it’s probably substandard and improperly installed.

I gotta hand it to the Ukie operators who presumably did this. Whites of their eyes. Balls of steel.

For something this high visibility, I’d be surprised if it were substandard. At the same time, $1000 artillery shell can wreck a $1m home, so ...

Much like their leaders are doing to our country.

The unconnected roadway there has collapsed as well, so unless fire can melt concrete, and steel, and do it from distance across a body of water, I’m not buying the “accident” thing. It’s like NordStream, it was done knowing it’s beyond Ukraine capabilities but well within NATO’s.
