Plasma donation(selling) for profit: Good Idea?
fwdude | Oct 7, 2022 | fwdude

I've recently been contemplating selling my plasma at one of the various plasma centers in my large city. I need advise from FReepers who have either done this or are familiar with the industry.

Good idea?

What are the pros and/or cons?

Any advice on plasma companies to avoid?

What is a good compensation rate?

I'm not doing so out of desperation, just would like some more ammo money in my pockets, and for some other savings goals.

I don’t care about the blood drawn. I care about what they are putting back in me.

I used to donate plasma in college for supplemental beer income. If you are healthy there are no ill effects I know of and it helps people in emergencies. You can’t make a living on it, though.

The blood which flows through the heart

Is plasma only in part.

But that, they say,

Can be sold for good pay

At Whole Foods Deli and Mart.

I have always donated blood. You can do it about 4 times a year only and they do not give you anything. Sometimes t-shirt or some useless gift card. They told me that they do not pay because they are afraid that people will lie on the screening to get the money.
Plasma donation actually takes the red cells out of the blood and returns it to your body, so you can donate many more times. Plasma is more-less water, your body can replenish it a lot easier then the cells.
I think they use the plasma to make stuff out of it, and it gets sterilized. So they do not care about bad donors and
they pay for it. Noting unethical.
Seems like the students are always in need of money so most plasma centers are around universities!

That pretty well sums it up. I finally decided it wasn’t worth the time.

I used to do it like 30 years ago. It attracted the dregs of society….myself included.

25-30$ per donation in my area.

Not much more than cheap alcohol money.

We sold our plasma for a few weeks about 25 years ago when we moved to AZ. We hadn’t started our jobs yet and needed money to feed the kids who, oddly enough, demanded food. We made about $45 each per week, enough for basic groceries. It was depressing as hell being there though.

I think non covid vaccinated people would be doing a service even if they get paid.

I am uncertain about how the covid shots affect the blood. I am not saying I am sure they damage it but there seems to be good evidence that they can provoke clotting and cardio problems in some so I am dubious about blood donations from those who have had the shot/s.

Unfortunately, you are out of luck if you need blood.

I just went through this with my aunt. She is unvaxxed and needed blood due to a fall a week ago. She’s on a blood thinner. She made a big fuss about how she didn’t want blood from vaxxed people and I’m like, “Duh, they don’t screen the blood of the vaxxed out. Why are you bothering to argue with doctor on this?”

I told her that if were ever in a situation where I might die without blood, I’ll have to take my chances with the blood because my chances are better with a transfusion than without. She was at a hospital in an area with a large Amish and Mennonite population, so I kind of lied and told her they donate blood at high rates. I really don’t know what their donation rates are, but I do know they don’t have an issue with getting transfusions and I think I have seen blood drive signs outside Mennonite churches.

I do wonder what they landscape will look like if the truth comes out about the vaxxes. Will the medical community be compelled to transfuse nonvaxxed to nonvaxxed?

I’d like to donate blood, but the only time I did it was a complete disaster. They couldn’t get the needle out. It took five people to try and I was left with a huge hematoma. The doctor estimated I lost a pint through that.

I’m a small person. I barely made the weigh cut off. I guess my veins are too small for the needle.

It has become more clear now than ever, that one’s life is in the blood. Since the exposure of the MRNA Gene therapy shots I personally would not trust anyone with that responsibility. Years ago I used to donate plasma but now I wouldn’t even consider it. Perilous days!
