Rantz: Elementary school cancels ‘exclusionary’ Halloween, won’t answer basic questions. ( Seattle )
770 KTTH ^ | Oct 5, 2022 | Jason Rantz

A Seattle-area elementary school again canceled Halloween celebrations. The principal called it “exclusionary” because not everyone celebrates the holiday.

After torturing children with absurd and unscientific COVID protocols, like socially-distanced lunch outside on the pavement, you’d think Principal John Simard of Brookside Elementary in Shoreline would want kids to have fun. No such luck. He emailed parents to explain that while some children may be looking forward to Halloween, he cannot allow any celebrations.

Wokeness killed another holiday celebration where kids could have fun. This move should be condemned, not celebrated as inclusive.

...

School pretends Halloween is exclusionary..

There are some students that do not celebrate Halloween. And if they don’t celebrate, then no one can, the principal says.

“Many see Halloween as a fun candy-filled holiday,” Simard writes. “They enjoy the community-building benefits that a shared experience can bring. This may be true for you and your family; I can certainly say it is for mine. However, this is not the case for all. Halloween celebrations are exclusionary for students who come from certain cultural or religious backgrounds.”

Simard does not explain which cultural or religious backgrounds preclude the celebration of a secular holiday. He also doesn’t explain why “Crazy Hat Day,” where students wear crazy hats as they would costumes, is permissible. And although not every student celebrates Thanksgiving, Simard isn’t canceling that holiday’s week-long beak.

The principal also says he wants “this to be a place for all of our students and families.” But by banning Halloween, he’s expressly stating the school is not a place for students and families who celebrate Halloween.

...

Neither the district spokesperson nor the principal responded to multiple requests for comment. But one parent, who asked to remain anonymous, told the Jason Rantz Show on KTTH that he and his family are sick of the politically-motivated double standards.

“Birthdays are celebrated, there are cultural heritage months, Black Lives Matter curriculum and flags, pride celebration, along with all of the other religious holidays that are acknowledged,” the dad said. “Why is Halloween canceled? The school also has other days where dressing up silly, or in colors or in pajamas, is encouraged. I see zero difference in letting kids dress up in costumes.”

The dad called this “unfortunate.”

...

Why do liberals hate everything?

Liberals are miserable. The only thing that appears to bring them joy is making everyone else as miserable as they are. Exclusionary? There isn’t a singular celebration, event, extracurricular, or sports team that isn’t “exclusionary.” Yet, the school allows those activities.

Not all students are capable of playing an instrument. Some families can’t afford it. Yet, does the school cancel the orchestra? No. They celebrate it. And not everyone has athletic skills or feels comfortable performing in public. So why does the school promote volleyball, soccer, hockey, and golf? In fact, golf is supposedly white supremacy in action — wouldn’t this exclude (and offend) black students?

You can make a number of silly arguments to claim anything is exclusionary. So why do they get rid of Halloween? It has everything to do with the destructive “equity” movement, which brings nothing but anger and division.

Left-wing educators have moved to cancel Halloween nationwide because they note that some students can’t afford nice costumes (or any at all). This is undoubtedly true. Perhaps, rather than using a low-income family to justify canceling a fun celebration, you could get creative, encourage costume donations, or offer alternative programming for the day. But heaven forbid we let kids have fun — a concept that I’m sure some educators will claim is white supremacy culture.

“It’s a truly sad example of what our society has turned into,” the Shoreline dad explained. “The need to cancel everything someone doesn’t like has become the breaking point of the fabric of our country. Cancel culture is just another form of censorship. Censorship is control. I can’t even fathom the fact that I have to write a reporter so my kid and his friends can dress up in their costumes for Halloween. It’s truly upsetting.”

I strongly doubt they would do this in response to a Christian complaint. A Muslim probably complained.

We never thought about ‘evil’ when we were kids. We just wanted to dress up like princesses and superheroes - and get candy.

I’ll keep my Hallowe’en, thanks.

If that was what Halloween was really all about, that would be fine.

But it isn’t.

The gruesome and ghoulish and downright satanic Halloween “decorations” I see people putting up are not fun and games. It’s an obsession with death and witchcraft, and meant to scare kids.

I never saw any ‘satanic’ decorations - but maybe I don’t dwell on that stuff and wouldn’t recognize them. Perhaps you could describe them.

People had pumpkins, ‘Caspar’, witches riding brooms - but they didn’t really believe in any of it. It was a joke; the people were pretty wholesome.

(Do you think ‘The Wizard of Oz’ was ‘satanic’; or Washington Irving’s ‘Headless Horseman’?)

Witches, skeletons, graveyards, effigies hanging from trees with purple colored heads.

It’s not all cornstalks and smiling jack o’lanterns.

Well, with all respect, I wouldn’t want to live in a world where we didn’t refer to these things and ‘whistle past the graveyard’ over them.

Your fear over something as innocuous as Hallowe’en seems to me like the primitive and superstitious mindset that resulted in the murder of thousands of (innocent) ‘witches’. (Frankly, I fear people who actually believe in ‘devils’ much more than I do those who just laugh at the idea and play with it.)

To follow your beliefs, we’d have to get rid of all family ghost stories (almost every family has one); outlaw Dickens, Shakespeare, Stephen Vincent Benét, and lots of others with all of their ghosts, spirits, etc.

Our literary and folk history is full of ghostly and devilish stuff - and it’s there for good reasons. It shows us our fears and existential concerns; highlights our mortality, human weakness and continuing connection to ancestral and atavistic beliefs; and often portrays important concepts in assimilable ways. We play those out, at Hallowe’en.

Again, I’ll keep the ‘celebration’. It’s lots of fun for kids, and very thought-provoking for others.

hurting and humiliating children and women, I might add......this is the hidden agenda....

as mentioned in the article, the schools didn't mind isolating the non vaxxed little kids OUTSIDE in cold weather sitting at metal tables away from the other kids....

no that wasn't apparently cruel and unusual punishment.....NOT!

my feelings towards halloween have changed the past several yrs...

I don't put anything scary up at all...

its a fall holiday and that includes colorful leaves, pumpkins, gords, etc and flowers with orange/brown/yellow fall hues....

BUT I think kids need to have fun and if dressing up and collecting candy gives them one night of fun and joy, then let them do it.....I certainly loved it when I was a kid.

Why do you assume it’s fear?

Did I ever say that?

Nor did you address the effigies being hung.

You asked for examples of why I called them demonic and I gave them, then you completely glossed over that aspect, then proceeded to lecture me about my alleged “fear” of Holloween.

People have always ‘hung’ effigies. (There’s a whole holiday in Britain that has centered around burning Guy Fawkes, the Pope, and various others.)

And yes, you do appear to fear it. You see it as an obsession with death, instead of a trivializing of it. If you didn’t fear it, it seems to me you’d just laugh and have fun with it, as most people do.

If Hollywood’s acting community didn’t dress up in costumes, we would have realistic movies.

Well at least I can say that HALLOWEEN, or more formally “ALL HALLOWS EVE” is a real holiday for some religions, whereas KWANZA is just some RACIST BULLSHIT made up by a punk/black/gangbanger in COMPTON!

I think I’ve stated before that I’ve lived and worked among Black people all of my life, but have never known a single Black person who celebrated Kwanzaa.

For adults Halloween is just an excuse for a dress up party,
for kids it’s a chance to score big candy loot while incognito!

ALL HALOWS EVE does not have any religious significance for any body now days unless your a DRUID!

Quit your complaining “CHARLIE BROWN”, at least you got rocks.

Me and my brother just got chased off the porch with a broom handle!

Halloween was a great time in the 50’s wasn’t it!

Come to think of it, NEITHER HAVE I.

I lived in Downey for 35 years, had about 17 black employees spread through out the trades in my department, (80) total guys.

They all celebrated CHRISTMAS, EASTER, 4’th OF JULY, etc.

And their own birthdays (told’em all it was a scam but I didn’t care), but not a single one ever asked for a kwanza day off!

All Souls’ Day - November 2 - is certainly somewhat ‘religious’, and related to the others.

I like it very much; it’s a time to look back and remember and honor the people in one’s life who have gone on.
