Do you remember the three kids playing in the surf at the pier yesterday during Ian? I made this three-part video of that exact location. Total destruction.

All video is from the same location. The first 3 minutes is from a happy couples vacation video shot in January, 2022. Then is some video of three foolish kids playing in the rough surf. The last part is the scene of the devastation the next day. So sad...

I was watching the live video of that pier yesterday, even before the video cut out you could start seeing pieces of wood coming off, I knew it wouldn’t make it.

Normally, I would say the area would be rebuilt in a few years, but with this economy, things weren’t all that great even before the hurricane, so it may be decades before it comes back to anything resembling what it was.

If the few months of covid shutdowns was enough to put bars and restaurants out of business, this certainly will. As you said, this isn't a months or year thing. Even in a prosperous area like this.

“...so it may be decades before it comes back to anything resembling what it was.”

Congress just approved another spending bill sending BILLIONS again to Ukraine.

Our America is gone. We may as well just admit it and get used to it. We had a good run. :(

An event like this is (or should be) covered by insurance. Covid wasn't.

Assuming proper coverage. Business interruption insurance coverage lasts until the end of the business interruption period, as determined by the insurance policy. According to the Insurance Information Institute, the standard policy is 30 days, but using an endorsement can extend it to 360 days. Good luck with getting your business rebuilt in 30 days.

This is what happens when the first and second little pigs build a Bar & Grill on the Gulf of Mexico.

Well done! Your video says it all. No more wooden pier walkway. Pierside bar and grill reduced to splinters and washed away.

This hurricane will spook many from moving down to Florida so soon. This will hurt Florida real estate values. The UK Daily Mail says hundreds have died.

As an aside... For a pier side grill, the menu has hardly any real fish items. Just some non-local calamari, shrimp and a greasy smoked fish dip. I guess the real menu is alcohol and various junky fried items. With a seaside view.

And then there is the cost of insurance. The owner cannot cover the cost of building in that spot.

LOL, that's pretty much every "seaside" restaurant in Florida.

I will never touch those ubiquitous smoked fish dips. Disgusting stuff. Though they must be real crowd pleasers with some beers. Or it would not be on Florida menus everywhere.

Not up on the Panhandle. Local freshly caught seafood, and not just fried!
