Play stupid games win stupid prizes.
We used to go to Bimini from Homestead when fishing in a 28’ Bertram. The biggest challenge other than the weather is crossing the gulf stream without getting pushed up to Ft Lauderdale somewhere.
I’m guessing alcohol or hobby pharmaceuticals were involved?
A man’s got to know his limits
Thanks for the info. Am I correct in assuming that stand up “Jet Skis” Have been banned for danger? I am not talking about the PWC, of course.
Sharks gotta eat, too.
Almost sounds like a suicide run: no mention of extra gas, communication redundancy (who would try that solo on a water hog without a satellite phone); one rogue wave and it’s over.
THere is an annual Jet Ski run every year from East coast of Florida (Miami) to Bimini. They have a back up fuel and a “chase” boat.
It’s about 50 miles from Miami to Bimini.
The way I understand it, it’s a run over. Spend the night. And come back the next day.
I suspect there is lots of drinking involved.
You don’t F around with the Gulf Stream...if the wind is coming from the wrong direction you can get these big square waves and it’s downright dangerous. You couldn’t pay me enough money to attempt it on a jetski.
The problem is not the distance. The problem is the Gulf Stream. Crossing the Gulf Stream is problematic, even for good mariners in a good ocean going cruiser or a motor yacht. Wise yachtsmen make the passage in pairs, never solo.
54 miles, Hillsboro inlet to bimini. Doable,.however, not safe without others, or a chase boat.
Not a good story.
Ending doesn’t look promising
As my dad used to say; “They are old pilots and bold pilots, but there are no old, bold pilots”.
Then I’d mention Yeager and he’s get mad.
God speed to this man.
May His fully not be his final.
