https://www.guns.com/news/2022/09/27/couple-buys-storage-box-finds-it-full-of-select-fire-m16s A shipment of military surplus storage cases recently bought by a Texas couple had at least one filled with some NFA-regulated party favors, sans tax stamps.
The unidentified winners of an auction for over 100 green plastic Hardigg rifle shipping and storage cases from a Georgia-based online surplus company cracked open one to find at least a dozen M16s inside, reports KTRK in Houston. In what was probably the right move from a legal standpoint but what will be an epic letdown for many, they called the ATF who "quickly" arrived to pick up the guns.

It could just as easily have been the latter, but they were probably all up to date on their DIE training/indoctrination.
3 may keep a secret if 2 are dead.
Cosco——nothing: Actually there was a big “something.” That little bit of cuteness got the chicoms banned from selling weapons and ammo here. That’s when the Norinco stuff disappeared as well as the cheep 762 X 39 ammo
They appear to live on a plantation, so.
Fast and Furious goodies right there.
Indeed, people do not realize that โgood deedsโ like these do not go unpunished by the government with an investigation and a target watch on their backs.
I would have put that case on the bottom of the pile for a while. The M-16 is a lot of fun if someone else is paying for the ammo.
The Taliban is going to be mad when they find out a shipment was late.
Heh, great minds think alike ๐๐
ATF will probably repartiate them to the US military which will probably send them to the Taliban in Afghanistan, or maybe just the Ukraine black market.
A member of my artillery battalion in W. Germany lost an M-16 during field training in the German countryside. A German national found it and reported the find to the Polizei. The rifle was returned to military control & the German civilian was paid a finderโs fee that was specified in German law. The soldier was given a field-grade Article 15 and the whole unit was detained on post until the rifle was found.
Definitely a setup.

hopefully in the minority, and we haven’t heard from the others

I was at Bagram Airbase in 2011, one guy from my squadron left his M-16 on one of the buses that’s constantly hauling people around the base perimeter. The rifle was found by a third country national and given back to us. I don’t know if that person was compensated. A couple of months later, another guy in our squadron accidentally left his in one a B-hut that was run by the chaplains, and an Army guy found it.
Both these Airmen were also involved in trying to lie about cutting a FOD screen on an F-15’s inlet ramps, and trying to cover it up with an NCO who was present for the incident, no article 15 were given for that or the rifle incidents. One guy of those three did wind up losing a stripe because after the FOD screen, after losing his rifle, he thought it would be a good idea to violate Air Force Technical Orders and drop a 600 gallon external fuel tank without making sure it was completely empty first, thus spilling a couple of hundred gallons of fuel on the ramp.
Plus it would eat you out of house and home from the ammo expense.
The treasure hunters of the Civil War gold weren’t treated fair.
From the looks of what these pieces actually are I expect they were being surplused. The Mil doesn’t want them back. A few years ago I bought a batch of M16’s, early SP-1 style, no forward assist. The were complete minus a very minor trigger group part, a spring, as I remember, new barrels and semi auto lowers. In this case it looks like the barrels are too short to surplus and the lowers need sawing but otherwise a lot of nice parts in the box. Owner needed imagination.
