I suspect investors (who choose not to short the market) will move to cash. More puts yesterday than any day in history I read... The dollar is gaining strength and will continue to do so as money flees Europe.
I see gold as a back up battery - not an investment.

The whole experience has soured me on taking an annuity for myself in retirement. I plan to stay in self-directed IRAs.

I am retired and that is exactly what I did.
You can schedule distributions monthly (or whatever) to meet your specific requirements—and change them if your circumstances change.

That was the expiring May contract. The June contract was $25 on the same day.

I’ve seen way too many old people on SS and pensions try to live out their retirements in “Peace and Prosperity” only to be house poor, bankrupt, and throw their life savings away on garbage (like you needed that boat or RV).
I’ve been playing the market for the long long road and this is yet another buying opportunity.
I’ve got a colleague who is 84 years old. He is still as sharp as a tack and has more money than he can spend in two lifetimes. He just won’t retire.
That may be my model after having given it much thought.
