Regarding the $36 million Oberlin College has been required to pay Gibson’s Bakery:
Leaving aside fees paid by the college to Washington lawyers and the cost of insurance, the $36 million might have been spent as follows:
(1) By giving each of the 295 underpaid members of the full-time faculty an outright grant of $122,033.
(2) By reducing this year’s tuition bill to all 2,658 students by $957.
(3) Or the money could have been left in the endowment, to generate $2 million a year.
Note also that the $36 million cost of Oberlin College’s campaign against Gibson’s Bakery equals a gift of $900 from every member of Oberlin’s alumni, fewer than half of whom give anything today.

Maybe they should have thought of that before they slandered a business run by honest people who simply wanted justice for a wrong done to them?
All they had to do was nothing and that would have happened.
Apparently, they couldn’t.
They coulda used the 36 mil to shut down the Uni in an orderly fashion.
Well, actions have consequences.
Oberlin is a horrible, leftist college and the peoe there needs to suffer. I wish the pentalty was much larger.
Keeping mouths shut...PRICELESS
well, they had that money before they ruined that family’s business and you dint do it then, so... STFU!!
These fascist bastards truly have no clue that they deserve this. It’s just some vindictive right wingers picking on them because they are forward thinking progressives.
Honestly, this man has no idea that the college is at all responsible for the situation in which it finds itself.
How can one expect remorse or a “learning from experience” from people that sincerely believe they can do no wrong? They are clearly irrational.
Odds that they will do it again?
I will not even suggest that you could have behaved like rational humans in the first place because that is beyond most academics.
All bad choices. Gibson’s will use the money productively. Too bad it wasn’t 300 million.
All the “College” had to do was to apologize, for their slander, early on. But the arrogant, sanctimonious SOBs refused to do so. Oberlin deserves to be crushed for their attempts to destroy this Bakery. They probably sent the owner to an early grave due to their slanderous attacks.
I hope there is an even bigger lawsuit judgment against them somewhere in their future.
I am sure part of it is because they pump out Leftist drones, and we all know Leftists are notoriously self-centered, stingy a-holes.
And part of it might be those who attended your "college" and managed not to get brainwashed, are appalled at your actions.
I wonder how much the “underpaid members of the full-time faculty” are being paid?
Then we can decide for ourselves if they truly are “underpaid.”
Why’d they back criminal thieves and lie about it as an institution?
I’d have awarded 10x that amount.
Sadly, several of the owners of the store died before the money was finally paid.
I believe Oberlins costs were covered by an insurance policy.
Absolutely no sympathy here. Justice delayed is justice denied, successfully in this case for the two Gibsons who died during the long protracted process, and Oberlin was trying every dirty legal trick in the book to stretch it still further. If the past president of the college here is implying that it never should have happened, he’s right. It was a shameful, opportunistic drive to destroy a family business through a lie based on the assumption that Oberlin was too big to challenge. Frankly I’d have doubled the damages after all this time, and it would still not be enough.
