Climate change is making lakes less blue

If global warming persists, blue lakes worldwide are at risk of turning green-brown, according to a new study which presents the first global inventory of lake color. Shifts in lake water color can indicate a loss of ecosystem health. The new research was published in Geophysical Research Letters.

The researchers used 5.14 million satellite images for 85,360 lakes and reservoirs around the world from 2013 to 2020 to determine their most common water color.

Additionally, the new study explored how different degrees of warming could affect water color if climate change persists. The study finds climate change may decrease the percentage of blue lakes, many of which are found in the Rocky Mountains, northeastern Canada, northern Europe and New Zealand.

"Warmer water, which produces more algal blooms, will tend to shift lakes towards green colors," said Catherine O'Reilly, an aquatic ecologist at Illinois State University and author of the new study.

While prior studies have used more complex and finer scale metrics to understand overall lake ecosystem health, water color is a simple yet viable metric for water quality that can be viewed from satellites at the global scale, the authors said. This approach provides a way to study how remote lakes are changing with climate.

Yeah. But all the blue is transferring itself up into the sky and making the sky more blue. Jugheads.

Actually, it’s caused by lawn and farm fertilizer run-off. Too much Nitrogen in the water created the perfect environment for various algae growth.

The People’s Republic of Madistan (Dane County) has had a BAN on any nitrogen-based fertilizers for decades.

Doesn’t help one bit. People just go buy their lawn fertilizers in the next county over. The Madison Lakes are a disgusting mess.

But mainly, it’s from the old hippies bathing in the lakes from time to time, LOL!

“Climate Change” never seems to cause more rainbows, or more cute fuzzy bunny rabbits, or laughing children. Climate change always results and dark or dismal news.

It’s amazing how one single natural phenomenon can be so unlucky!

Less blue?

That’s nothing.

All the blathering about climate change made two of my hats turn red.

“Climate change” is a giant hoax designed to destroy Western societies and enslave its citizens. Just ask Klaus ‘Blofeld’ Schwab or John ‘Lurch’ Kerry.

Well, hopefully it will make my inland property "ocean front" so I can sell and move from NYS.

GLOW-BALL WARMING IS GOING TO KILL US ALL!

That is, if the CCP-Coronavirus, or the COVID inoculations, or nuclear war with Russia, or nuclear war with China, or ACTUAL pollution from China, or being forced to eat crickets by the WEF cultisits, or just plain socialist government policies, or one of a million other things, including old age, kills us first!

Most people who have spent much time in the winter, especially during blizzards, in cities like Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg, or the NWT, and many who’ve lived in mid-West States, WELCOME warmer winters!

Yeah, GLOW-BALL warming!

It is not surface temperature, but excess nutients in the water, such as phosphates that cause algal blooms.

When our town agressively banned the humam feeding of the wild ducks and geese (mostly conisisting of bread) in a stream fed manmade lake in a local park, the algal blooms went away.

People peeing and dumping on the streets of San Francisco are creating algae blooms in the San Francisco Bay

This turns the water all kinds of non blue colors, kill marine life and sets the stage for cholera and other serious diseases and the profs are defending and enabling the destruction of the Bay Area ecosystem

If temps going up half a degree over the next 100 years caused lakes to change color then lakes in Florida and most of the South would already NOT be blue. We’re MORE than a half degree warmer than New York now.

This is a "problem" easily solved. My great aunt used it on her hair.
Dump a gallon or two into the lake, voilà ! It'll be just as blue as aunty's hair.

No, what’s causing the algae bloom in the lake down the street is a the Californians on their sailboards. Nasty hipsters don’t wash. :)

Climate change is making lakes less blue

So just dump a couple of tons of blue dye into the lakes to restore the color!

Sheesh, do I got to do all the work for these "scientist guys?"

Regards,
