A new study from WalletHub suggests the Garden State may be one of the happiest places in the entire country.
In overall happiness, New Jersey ranked number five. Hawaii, Maryland, Minnesota and Utah claimed the top four spots respectively.
Additionally, New Jersey ranked second on the topics of emotional and physical well-being.
Unfortunately, the state was also ranked as one of the worst (#47) when it came to long-term unemployment.
You guessed it!
The idea that happiness is an ideal pursuit or outcome in one’s life is shallow. While there is nothing wrong with happiness and we should all enjoy those moments, there are other things that should take precedent. For instance, sacrifices and toil for one’s family, particularly the children and grandchildren. Properly preparing them for life, and hopefully a better life than you ranks higher than happiness. Serving the Lord is another ideal that should put rank happiness.
Have never met too many people from N.J. who were happy with their state...
At least during the 1960s and 1970s, almost every NJ person I had contact with, mostly very happy people, bitched and moaned about the state they were living in...
What?! With those stupid jug-handle intersections?! And no self-serve gas stations?
Woody Allen was asked his definition of God.
He said an all-powerful, all-loving Being that permeates the entire Universe except certain parts of New Jersey.

NJ is listed at #1 lowest suicide rate and #5 lowest in adult depression.
It’s also #3 lowest in divorce rate, but that might mean fewer people are marrying (which might explain why they’re so happy).
Excepting for Utah, the people who live in those ‘happy’ states, should take a clue and stay happy by staying there. We in Florida and Texas don’t want them here. We’re getting too many of them moving south, as it is, to ‘unhappy’ grounds. So, you ‘happy-staters’, if you don’t want to move to an ‘unhappy’ state, please stay put.
New Jerseyans like jughandles and not pumping our own gas. That’s not what we are unhappy with. It is our demented woodchuck governor and Trenton which sucks hard.
Ask those who fled those states what they think.
Total BS
These sorts of rankings are meaningless. It all depends upon the criteria by which different states are going to be judged. You can make a list of states and criteria and set up an Excel spreadsheet and even pivot tables to come up with results.. but how meaningful are the results?
I doubt too many people who live in the slums of Camden are happy that they live in one of the happiest states in the Union.
I fell like we Texans should lend New Jersey our slogan:
“Don’t Mess With New Jersey!”
Might amp up the happiness
whadayathink?
I left 2 yrs ago, couldn’t be happier.
I grew up in NJ and left in my 20’s. I now live in Ohio.
I will have to say I found the people in NJ to be much friendlier.
They never asked me.
I say BS
Last year we were number #1, I demand a recount!
This is a rigged poll and I deny this poll ever took place since New Jersey is the best place to live
"How do I love thee? Let me count the ways!" ( sonnet by poet Elizabeth Barret Browning ).
So sorry....Florida is THE first-place happiest state, for a number of ways too numerous to list....and that is why peeples from the whole country are moving here in droves !
Florida, we love thee !
Leni (Florida, of course !)
Nobody messes with the soprano state, nobody
Must not have called Camden.
We gave it to Philly decades ago
