Unforced Error: Glenn Beck Withdraws Support for Article V Convention
PJ Media ^ | 9-16-22 | JEFF REYNOLDS

Posted on 09/17/2022 7:44:51 PM PDT by dynachrome

In the clip, Beck says:

“I have been a supporter of the Article V Convention of States. I have been a pretty big supporter, a vocal supporter. I am reversing that today because after some real thought and prayer, we are not the people to open up this sacred document. We are not the people. That was a God inspired document that was divinely written. You can read that from I don’t know how many founders. The very hand of God was involved. Benjamin Franklin even said that. The very hand of God was involved in writing that document. Do you believe that we could send that kind of delegate today? Someone who, when they got to an impasse, somebody like Ben Franklin would say, let’s pause and go to church and pray. They did not politic. They prayed. I am not for opening up that Constitution any more because we are not that people any more. When we are that people, I will be for it again. When we have demonstrated our humility and our obedience to God, and I am afraid it is going to take a massive beat down of our country to get to that place, then I will be for it again. Some day we will be humble enough, we will recognize God, some day we will not be an enemy to God, we will not be so arrogant. When we are those people, I will support the Convention of States. But I withdraw my support, and I am sorry to say that. It is because of the fact that this Constitution is wholly inadequate for anyone other than a religious and moral people. We are not those people and we should not stain this document.

Tax cap amendments?

For property tax, for income tax

...no new federal taxes

...no new federal imposts or fees....

Biden says he doesn’t what to increase taxes on incomes below $400,000 (his Presidental salary).

Let’s make the Biden limitation permanent (and key it to inflation [not less than the average sales price of a detached house nationwide]).

Ok, let us say we repeal the 17th Amendment and return to a Senate with members appointed by their State Legislatures. Is it going to make a difference?

NO.

The effects of the 17th were long to realize, but it changed the thinking of the nation. The State legislatures are corrupted by big government thinking. There will be no difference in the Senate.

As far at the V-Convention goes, changing something we don’t follow in the first place is useless.

Perhaps an amendment to cap the national debt at $50 trillion too.

“The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States...”

Note the adjective “general” well.

None of these CONservatives are getting off of their asses and pushing it, except Levin. Glenn Beck was at least talking about it...no one else is. the thing about the left is that they ORGANIZE. Every talker and Fox host should have been pushing this 24/7.

Glenn is wrong about this. I don’t see any other path to restoring limited government.

There is much more to do than just repeal the 17th.

I agree- Enforce the one we got. The politico’s that will be involved in any convention are absolutely unable to improve our current version.

It would eliminate voting fraud, for one.

I don't think it would have happened, anyway.

The biggest danger at this point is actually having success in holding a convention... and it goes nowhere. A pile of constitutional amendment proposals, none ultimately ratified. Amendments proposed with similar wording, but not ratified because legal disputes between versions that make 5% of a difference end up meaning 100% of the amendment is scuttled.

There is also only interest in amending the constitution within a subsection of the political right (unless you're talking abortion, then the left is on board for enshrining that).

At this point in America, if Republicans somehow held a nationwide free pancake breakfast, there would be a prominent segment of the left that would scream that the syrup was poisoned and demand the police raid the whole thing just so nobody would enjoy a moment of happiness if Republicans were behind it. Later, people would be reported to the authorities for having maple on their breath.

"It would eliminate voting fraud, for one."

Like the state electors did in the 2020 Election?

Article V is a great idea and a way to repeal the 17th amendment.

Only a complete buffoon with terminal normalcy bias would be against an Art V convention.

No, I mean in the vote for US Senators by the state legislatures. It’s a straightforward process.

Short of civil war. I highly suggest we try it however I don’t think the people not following the rules will follow a new set of rules.

Going to have to replace um all with a reboot.

Freep Republic is now a bastion of rich old people, near the end, and don’t want the boat rocked while they sail off into the sunset. Not all “old” people are like that, just there are a lot of them here.

Wait, don’t skip over state secession. If that doesn’t work we can commenec killing each other. There will be plenty of time to do that.

Well this was obvious from the get go. People today have been so downgraded(Deliberately) in every way. Only horror could come from a constitutional convention at this point in time.

“I’m sure the Marxists would love to see us go”

Not at all. We’re the ones they intend to rob!!

There is a reason they always put up walls and fences.
