Research shows that dairy products, especially low-fat products and yogurt, are associated with a lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes (T2D).
Red and processed meat were linked to a higher risk of T2D but moderate amounts of fish and eggs could be eaten in their place, say the Italian researchers.
Dr. Annalisa Giosuè and colleagues carried out a review of existing meta-analyses into links between different animal-based foods and diabetes. This type of "review of reviews" provides one of the highest levels of evidence available in medicine.
There was a substantial increase in T2D risk with the consumption of 100 g/day of total meat (20% increase in risk) and 100 g/day of red meat (22% increase) and with 50 g/day of processed meats (30% increase). The quality of evidence was moderate.
A daily amount of 50g of white meat was associated with a smaller increase in T2D risk (4%).
Dairy foods, in contrast, appeared to protect against T2D or had a neutral relationship with the development of the condition.
Milk (200 g/day) was associated with a 10% reduction in risk, total dairy (200 g/day) with a 5% reduction in risk and low-fat dairy (200 g/day) with a 3% reduction. Yogurt (100 g/day) was associated with a 6% reduction in risk.
Cheese (30 g/day) and full-fat dairy (200 g/day) were found to have no effect on the risk of T2D. The quality of evidence was moderate to low.
Dr. Giosuè says, "Dairy products may favorably influence glucose metabolism.”
"For example, whey proteins in milk are known to modulate the rise of blood sugar levels after eating.
"Probiotics are also known to exert beneficial effects on glucose metabolism, which may explain why we found that a regular consumption of yogurt is associated with a reduced risk of type 2 diabetes."

Yeah—NO. Meta-studies provide absolutely no “evidence,” so this statement is a complete lie, but meta-studies do review multiple real, original studies by people who did actual work and opine on what the preponderance of data appears to show, holistically, if properly performed.
Do note idiots may be left doing these write ups, but the underlying studies can still be helpful.
The actual “highest level of evidence” is attainable via double-blinded, placebo-controlled trials done with massive numbers of test subjects.
Easy enough to find out.
Reduce/eliminate red meal.
And consume small amounts of dairy.
If you feel better than all is good.
If no difference..than no harm done.
Here’s an idea to not get diabetes: don’t get fat.
So I can still drink milk on my T2D preventative diet?
It’s been over a year except for half/half in coffee for the fat reduction but I really miss it.
When “may” is inserted into a sentence, the sentence becomes meaningless.
Jupiter may leave its orbit and collide with the Earth. If it may, it may not. Or maybe yes or maybe no.
I’d like to see just exactly what ‘they’ mean by ‘processed meat” myself.
An Eat Your Bugs report ,LOL
How interesting, red meat is bad, right when they are pushing the fake crap to save the world. No.
Nothing says “ science” like “may” or “might”.
“This type of ‘review of reviews’ provides one of the highest levels of evidence available in medicine.”
I wouldn’t in the least be surprised if that was true. I probably is the highest level of science we see in medicine. Drugs that are no better than placebo are approved by the FDA as a matter of course.
The write up says it:
“Processed meat includes bacon, sausages, and deli meat.”
There is no sugar in red meat (which is why it is keto/low carb diets) there is sugar in processed meat (part of the curing process)
MMM-Kay.
You should use heavy whipping cream in your coffee and drink an ice cold glass of VitD whole milk 2 or 3 times a week.
As usual, they don’t examine people who eat meat WITHOUT lots of simple carbs. If you eat lots of red meat and fat along with sugar and simple carbs, you are screwed. They can aggravate the effect of being a sugar machine.
But they are not the CAUSE of the problem, and cutting them wouldn’t SOLVE the problem.
This.🤔

Actually, it provides very little useful information. A “study of studies” mixes way too many types of data together, greatly increasing the variables with no good way to sort them out. A good study has ONE variable. Every time you add a variable, you induce error. Every time you apply statistics to try to FILTER out those errors, you create a new error.
Unhappily, “evidence based medicine” no longer exists. Now add in bias based on worldview (must save the planet by eating plants only) and the stuff turns into true garbage!
Physics be damned, eating meat now cause glucose spikes?
