EV runs out of juice, pushed by coal miners

DC tourist ran out of battery in the middle of a remote West Virginia road on Friday, near a coal mine on Mettiki Coal access road U.S. 48, a few miles outside of Davis, according to WTRF.

From FaceBook:

Randy Smith on Friday Some days are just better than others. Today at our mine off Corridor H an electric car from DC ran out of battery at the road entrance to the mine. Someone called one of our foreman and told him a car was broke down in the middle of our haul road. He went to investigate and found out they had indeed ran out of juice coming from DC to Davis for a get away weekend. He then went back to the mine and got guys to push the car to the guard shack so they could plug in to charge. ... See more

Just a casual thought; find out which of your neighbors can raise chickens, and consider making arrangements with them to raise some chickens for you and your table.

Easter is coming, and chicks may be available. You could arrange to have feed picked up and dropped off, or other such favors; maybe making it something like a scouting or community project.

Other home gardening projects could be considered as well.

Just a thought.

Well, that stinks. I’ll be buying another brand thanks. I’m not happy with Walmart meats, anyway. They’re usually very tough unless you use a slow-cooker.

I don’t know anyone who has a piece of property large enough to raise chickens. But maybe by this time next year.

Still, it kinda makes you wonder what Walmart knows that we don’t.

Chickens are easy to raise, and relatively easy to process — but you have to be ready to adapt to the notion of changing a living thing into meat for your table. That’s a big change for many people.

One helpful hint; when you see how the maturing chickens treat each other, they seem less deserving of the sympathies you might have.

Consider this; you and your merry band of chickens can scratch out an existence in very tough conditions, where you alone would simply starve.

Frank helps his frontier living friends process their chickens. He brought one home the last time, and we made a nice meal using the crockpot. And rice, I think.

My current plan is to use less meat.

I live within city limits with no yard of my own. Raising even one chicken would be problematical, and possibly grounds for being ousted. I’ll pass on it for a while, thanks!

Yes, we had chickens in Alaska, and I was definitely not friends with any of them. Most of them were much eviller than I was at my tender age. In fact, I had a great satisfactory curiosity in watching their beheading. I knew that Sunday dinner may not only contain chicken but may even produce dumplings, though at that time of my life, I wasn’t sure what part of the chicken the dumpling came from.

Good morning. Happy Monday!

Still waking up to temps in the 30s. But at least now it’s October so that doesn’t seem so strange.

I hope everyone’s survived the worst Ian could throw at them.

Back to 4.

Good morning all! I hope this is the start of a great week for everyone.

Sweet kitties in that picture. 😻

We’re waking up to temps in the mid 50s, which is quite nice. It warms into the 80s with low humidity these days - this is perfect for me. Not quite ready for mornings in the 30s like ArGee is getting. That tends to be our midwinter cold snap weather.

I managed to pull off a three.

My 5s have been ahead of my 3s since I started. They tend to hold a 5 game lead, give-or-take.
