EV runs out of juice, pushed by coal miners
DC tourist ran out of battery in the middle of a remote West Virginia road on Friday, near a coal mine on Mettiki Coal access road U.S. 48, a few miles outside of Davis, according to WTRF.
From FaceBook:
Randy Smith on Friday Some days are just better than others. Today at our mine off Corridor H an electric car from DC ran out of battery at the road entrance to the mine. Someone called one of our foreman and told him a car was broke down in the middle of our haul road. He went to investigate and found out they had indeed ran out of juice coming from DC to Davis for a get away weekend. He then went back to the mine and got guys to push the car to the guard shack so they could plug in to charge. ... See more
Prayers up for all that may be impacted, included your sister. She should be okay there in the Clearwater area... a couple of days ago it was a very different story... at this point it is pretty certain that Ian is going to come ashore (within hours) down the coast in the Port Charlotte area... as a very powerful storm...
Thank you. Yes, I have the Weather Channel on. This Ian thing is set to mess things up all the way to South Carolina.
I will most definitely add your sister to my prayers! It’s no fun to have loved ones in harm’s way. 🤞
Good job! The four-train is a good place to be!
I had to go to a physical therapist when I broke my shoulder. I figured out that people who are trying for a career in physical therapy and don’t make it go for CIA interrogation as a career.
I hope her cat-5 rated building has back-up services for when power and water go out.
Prayers.
Yes, I am.
Thank you. So far, they still have power and water. She’s updating me regularly.
Evening,
The Burrito shop I right opposite the student union building, off corn market north gate. Opened in 2008. You can’t get in the door in term time ,especially on a warm evening as there is a pub opposite with seating in the road.
Term starts next week. No more burritos and beer till Christmas.
Was in Trafalgar Square about 3 hours ago. Good book shop just around the corner in Piccadilly/ green park.
Did you find any good books?
Burritos and beer sound excellent!
Just had a look at the charts. It powers down considerably by 05:00 local.
From dangerous to annoying by morning. Fingers crossed.
Waterstone’s? I love that shop! We spent hours (and money) in there one rainy morning. A multi-story bookstore - be still, my heart!
One or two, they are now on reserve in the Oxford store. (Same chain)
They aren’t my favourite company for book hunting ,the shelves are best (most politely)described as chaotically arranged.
They recently bought out the worlds best store in Oxford, the staff in there are still in shock at the mess they made of the place. Total reorganisation.
Thankfully the “Norrington room” only suffered superficial attention. (Worth googling)
Yes that’s the one.
They have the entire £10k loeb library on the third floor.
That place was I believe an insurance building before they bought it, hence the rather posh interior.
Oh, burritos and beer.
They must have evolved together. There is no way that such a combination happed purely by chance. :D
Mexicans learned to make beer from Germans.
Dry needling is a war crime, I think.
Good morning. Happy Friday Eve!
Still cool here but maybe a lot less damp.
In-laws had gotten a statement about a month ago saying they owned a gift card with a pretty good chunk of change on it. After a search we realized they didn’t have the actual card around. We did some work with them and on their behalf and finally got a new one sent. Turns out it was 7 quarters of medicaid refunds.
F-I-L had been sure it was some kind of scam to get him to sign up for a credit card that he didn’t want. I think he’s finally understanding that the card has money on it that he can spend.
Not a wise move to use gift cards to give refunds to octogenarians. Fortunately, the county had switched to checks a while back.
My fives are pulling ahead of my threes.

Good morning.
I hope the PTs for the sciatica allowed you to sleep better last night.
Nothing on the docket for today but pill sorting and filing.
The groceries will be delivered today so I need to get up from here in a minute and get dressed. OK. Maybe five minutes. (Speak of the devil...just got a text saying “there are substitutions” in my order.) Since I’ve marked almost everything with “No Substitutions,” I figured it was the water. Yep.
I think, as with Hurricane, there is mold in the taps here, so I prefer to buy bottled water.
When Igor was in Arabia, he had to get water from the souk because the tap water was so hard it produced kidney stones in short order. At the time, I had never heard of bottled water. Except for Perrier, of course.
Good Morning!
“Phew” is right... didn’t expect to go to row six after seeing row three results... should have drunk more of the coffee! LOL
