EV runs out of juice, pushed by coal miners

DC tourist ran out of battery in the middle of a remote West Virginia road on Friday, near a coal mine on Mettiki Coal access road U.S. 48, a few miles outside of Davis, according to WTRF.

From FaceBook:

Randy Smith on Friday Some days are just better than others. Today at our mine off Corridor H an electric car from DC ran out of battery at the road entrance to the mine. Someone called one of our foreman and told him a car was broke down in the middle of our haul road. He went to investigate and found out they had indeed ran out of juice coming from DC to Davis for a get away weekend. He then went back to the mine and got guys to push the car to the guard shack so they could plug in to charge. ... See more

Good morning. P.J. O’Rourke said Iraq looks like Mars, so maybe it also looks like Utah.

Pretty good night, thanks. I think Jake was fighting it out with Vlad.

The Stewardship Committee Murders now has a spin-off series, “Revolt of the Parish Council.” I’m not sure how I ended up in this, but I’m not going to back down now.

I’m now personally mad at the business manager, because she said events in Spanish aren’t “parish events.” Who does she think all these Spanish-speaking people are, the lawn service? They’re one-third of the parish!

I’ve been to Utah.

Saw a couple of petrified seagulls.

There is a lot of red soil in Utah, including in a canyon close to where I grew up. (Our house was at the mouth of the canyon, so in the summer, we always got the breeze that came down from the canyon proper.) The foothills we played in were full of the red soil. It’s more prevalent down south (Cedar City is about where most of it starts, but it’s the bottom part of the state — from east to west, state line to state line.)

Is this business manager a newcomer to the parish? If so, she needs to understand that Jesus did not exclude anyone because of their ethnicity. Which begs the question you asked: Who does she think all those Spanish-speaking people are? You’ve got the Lord on your side so you can’t lose.

That rankles me and I don’t even know the person! Stick to your guns!

Oh, golly, I’m tired, and I have to sort pills soon. I just want a nap.

You mean the “flying rats?” Utah’s state bird. *blech* “Mormon Bombers.”

More were flying than petrified. Musta been at the Seagull Monument in SLC.

Good job!

I had the Quartet, too.

It’s not going to get above 60° today and tomorrow, it will only get to 45°. *sigh*

The business manager has been there at least 25 years and thinks she’s God Almighty. If the Parish Council chairwoman doesn’t get cold feet, she’ll have a fair amount of backing, as well as the Diocesan guidelines on her side.

Sounds like the business manager has been there too long. Once a person in “power” feels invincible, they think all decisions they make are true and correct and that is the time they need to be replaced. One can’t discount an entire group of people because of their ethnicity. It’s cruel and doesn’t follow the “WWJD” admonition.

I need to make my bed and sort pills before I fall over!

YES!! The Parishioners are revolting!!

Off with the heads of the establishment! Well, one of them, anyway. So-to-speak.

We’ll see. It’s the Parish Council that has to supply the generals. The rest of us are the cannon fodder, as it were.

What I’d like to see is for every parish organization to say, “No, we will not submit our budget requests to the business manager. We will follow the Diocese’s guidelines, consult with the parish council, and so on.”

I found out that Hispanic Ministry does have a budget. This is neither good nor bad in itself, but now we know the answer to the question!

If the business manager isn’t following the Diocese’s guidelines, then she needs to be reminded of her duties and not allow her personal prejudices to get in the way of the functioning of the Parish.

Maybe she’ll resign.

I kind of hope that if the parish council gets shirty enough, she’ll say, “It’s them or me!” ... and the pastor can’t fire the parishioners!

The problem with people who have held a position like that for so very many years is that they think they are indispensable and usually find out, to their chagrin, that they aren’t. They can be and most often are replaced.

Which surprises them, but knocks them down a peg or two. Maybe it’s her turn.

Good luck on this. I know you’ve been fighting this for quite some time now, and it’s time to rein it in and bring it to a halt. There’s absolutely no reason whatsoever for this to have escalated into such a major production.

It could have been solved long ago with a little cooperation on her part.

Well I’ve never been to Mars
But I kind of like the music
They say the ladies can’t drive cars there
Cause they don’t know how to use it

With apologies to Hoyt Axton.

Reminds me of a story.

Apparently, when Ronald Reagan died, he arrived at the Pearly Gates to a bit of a queue. He went up to St. Peter and said, “Hi, I’m Ronald Reagan. I ended the Cold War. Is there any chance I can skip the line?”

St. Peter replied, “Welcome, Mr. Reagan. I know everyone here appreciates what you did for peace, but everyone is the same here. You’ll have to wait with everyone else.”

So, Mr. Reagan went to the back of the queue.

After a little while, he saw an elderly gentleman with a stethoscope around his neck and carrying a black bag walk right past the line, wave to St. Peter, and go through the gates.

Naturally curious, Mr. Reagan went back up and said to St. Peter, “I thought you said everyone was the same here. Why did you just let that doctor go past all the line?”

St. Peter looked up and said, “Oh, Him? That was God. Sometimes he likes to play doctor.”

I guess in our Parish you could replace “doctor” with “business manager.”
