EV runs out of juice, pushed by coal miners

DC tourist ran out of battery in the middle of a remote West Virginia road on Friday, near a coal mine on Mettiki Coal access road U.S. 48, a few miles outside of Davis, according to WTRF.

From FaceBook:

Randy Smith on Friday Some days are just better than others. Today at our mine off Corridor H an electric car from DC ran out of battery at the road entrance to the mine. Someone called one of our foreman and told him a car was broke down in the middle of our haul road. He went to investigate and found out they had indeed ran out of juice coming from DC to Davis for a get away weekend. He then went back to the mine and got guys to push the car to the guard shack so they could plug in to charge. ... See more

"Good news on the books!
I’ll pester Blackwells, so if we can get them on the shelf here."

I realize that I've been keeping my cards a little too close to the vest. For those intrepid souls who may wish to gambol on a perhaps intriguing read, or would like to complete their collection, I've been writing under the pen name Brian B. Hawthorne.

Putting that name into an internet search will get you a plethora of wildly irrelevant information, but you may notice under Barnes and Noble that all eight of my books are listed as available, sometimes to be ordered into a local bookstore.

At the very least, one could order online for a print-on-demand delivery.

To save money, or to be more cautious in your bemusement, some of the titles could be ordered as e-readers for immediate delivery.

My poetry offering, Our Side of the Wall, is the only actually safe book for those who want to protect the tender eyes of their children, but as a reader, I would want to have something tangible when I find a poem that I like.

W00t!!

Good on ya!

Right now, I’m living in “The South,” at 273’ above sea level (84 m, I think?) and where I’m moving to is High Desert. This is too close to the Gulf of Mexico for my tastes — the heat and humidity combine to make air you can drink and water you can’t.

Where I’m going is where I moved from to come here, not realizing how detrimental it was going to be for my health. So it’s 120 miles NE of Las Vegas, where it’s nice and warm and DRY!

And yes, the lure of the old West will always be a draw for me because that’s where I was born. “You can take the girl out of the country, but you can’t take the country out of the girl!” ;o]

Yes, it seems once, a long time ago, when I was still in Vegas Valley, I invited yer mum to join us here, but she said she wasted enough time on Facebook and was afraid she’d never get off FR!

Moved from Fort Lauderdale to New Mexico 17 years ago. Love the dry! Went back to visit and was so uncomfortable!

Yeah, I get it. I lived in Las Vegas (NV) for over 30 years, then moved to AR to be close to my son and after less than a year, I knew I would have to move back West. So this will be a year of change for me. As Cyndi Lauper sings, “I’m Headed West!”

I’ll visit in the winter, but any other time of year is out!

It’s beginning to seem as though the most pleasant places to be are the ones with the fewest people.

There has to be an Ennio Morricone track playing in the background as that line is spoken. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Fistful_of_Dollars

Yeah, that’s an awful place.

But one of the strange coincidences about the solar system is that on Earth’s moon, at its South Pole, — that’s about the best place to be, (I mean, if you have to be on the moon!)

There’s sunlight, and shade, water (or at least water ice), an almost circular orbit in the same area as Earth’s orbit, and only a few second’s delay in communication to Earth.

What more could you ask?

Oy, at this hour?

We’re about to have pie. Father Gary gave it to us because it was sitting in the church kitchen. Apple.

She wasn’t. But that’s still hard on my sleep.

No interwebs this morning, so waterlogged fingers are having a tough time on my phones tiny screen.

I have to use my phone as a hotspot for the laptop but couldn’t set it up until I got back from the laundry room. Seems the Interwebs has been out a lot this last week, for whatever reason.

Anyway, I’ll leave it on until whenever.

What a stupendous kitteh!!

Good morning. I hope you had a good night!

The laundry is done, of course, and I’ll be going in shortly to take a small nap. Or a long one. I didn’t get rested from last week’s laundry day, so I’m lagging today and will have an awful week.

The Other Folks will be leaving for Points West tomorrow, but FS said he’d try to come by today. Otherwise, I won’t see him for who knows how long because he’ll be leaving for Maryland (again) to do some handyman stuff. Anyway, I need to get used to not seeing him.

There were some rubber “speed bumps” in the laundry room, probably six, and they stunk the place up horribly. The driveways here aren’t long enough for three on each side, so maybe the city will place some in the street out front.
