Well, there is another possibility and likely the root cause.

I tried and repeatedly failed. My garden lacked the necessary continuous sunlight. The goal is to grow record size pumpkins for competition. There must be care and planning because the results can be so large they are physically unmanageable. An 850 pound pumpkin may very well be too small to be competitive.

So, having exerted considerable, time and expense, what do you do with a loser 850 pound pumpkin?

The answer is that some person faced with the problem converted the pumpkin into a boat and thus began a new competition.

Looks like a good snack for one of those Bull Sharks that head up the river.

Looking at the pic, he may be sitting on his ice chest full of beer.

As people are cleaning up their gardens they always find a couple of zucchini or squash that have grown to giant size.

On my block I have introduced the idea that at that size they are no longer food but sports equipment.

Some time in October we throw a party and part of the fun will be coming up with new sports involving over sized vegetables.

We have yet to grow anything that will carry a human in the zucchini regatta.

Biden’s nearly 40-mile odyssey, if officially verified by Guinness World Records, would cement him as the world record holder for “longest journey of a rat by pumpkin.”

A mini coracle.

But the article doesn’t say what the previous record was - if there was one.

“...floating down the Potomac in an even bigger pumpkin and smashing this record.”

Naw. Got a better sport for him in a pumpkin...chunckin’. And put the landing zone in the Ukraine.

We have been down the James River more than 40 miles.

True, it was on a raft, not a pumpkin.

You’d think the size of the pumpkin might be a record holder. 846 pounds!

Not even close.

The largest pumpkin every grown to date was 2,624.6 pounds.

Probably didn't taste that good although it probably would have made a decent two person boat.
