In a case of highly charged sticker shock, a Florida Chevrolet dealer admits that it offered to replace the battery in a hybrid car for more than the vehicle is worth.
As reported by the website AutoEvolution, the case of the almost-$30,000 battery was being bandied about on social media for days, with some folks believing the tale and other relegating it to the pile of urban myths.
The story was based on a copy of an estimate for the battery of a 2012 Chevrolet Volt that was making the rounds. The Volt was a hybrid that was produced as Chevy was dabbling in the electric vehicle market. Its place in Chevrolet’s lineup has now been taken by the Bolt.
The estimate said that getting the battery would set the car’s owner back $26,853.99. Other costs brought the total bill to $29,842.15 — essentially $30,000.
According to the automotive site Edmunds, a 2012 Volt is estimated to go for between $7,999 and $17,590 these days.
Chevrolet advertises that its new Bolt starts at $25,000.
In the end, the truth about a used car came from a car dealer – in this case Roger Dean Chevrolet in Cape Coral, which prepared the estimate.
“This is an estimate for a 12 year old vehicle out of warranty and for a battery that is extremely hard to get, due to the older technology of the 12 year old vehicle,” the dealership posted on Facebook in an attempt to set the record straight.

Tesla started out with an unlimited warranty on their batteries.
Then it was 8 years/250k.
Then it became 8 years/ 100k, 120k or 150k, depending upon model.
The next story gone viral will be the EV owner with a 10-year-old vehicle who CANNOT get a battery.
At least ICE vehicles retain some value 10-30 years or longer vs becoming a paperweight due to compulsory obsolescence...
...on top of a capitalistic aftermarket which keeps them running FAR longer than the manufacturer ever intended.
“There are companies that hand retool small, out of production batteries for tools, laptops, etc. they charge more than a regular battery would be, but I bet someone other than Chevrolet could rebuild the battery to 80% efficiency or better for half that.”

Much safer to use a dedicated heater and doesn’t keep the rooster up all night.
That assumes the people (on the left) who need to be convinced have a rational brain capable of contrast and compare, from traditional 7th or 8th grade logic course . Highly doubtful except for homeschooled and private schooled people.

My whole house is LED. Haven’t had to replace any in 4+ years and my power bill is the same now as eight years ago.
Any way that Chevy Volt can’t be retrofitted with a hydrogen fuel cell and use pressurized hydrogen?
that’s because they’re not converting electricity into heat in order to make light. Incandescent light bulbs do that

According to AARP, the Tesla Model 3 only depreciates 5.5% after the first year of driving, dropping from a value of $48,650 to $46,121.
Why is the Tesla resale value so high compared to other EVs? It’s partly because Tesla batteries don’t degrade quickly, so you can drive them for years without a significant drop in battery capacity.

I can’t understand why Chevrolet isn’t leading the world in EVs. Oh wait, sorry, it’s only a “hybrid.” Baby steps for GM, I guess. Too funny.
And several months ago, the senile Sleepy Joe puppet visited GM’s headquarters — Chevrolet is a division of GM — and publicly bragged that he’s the one who said America must lead in EVs (as if nobody ever heard of EVs before 2021 and Sleepy Joe). Then Sleepy Joe ridiculously said that GM CEO Mary Barra was the one who “ELECTRIFIED the ENTIRE automobile industry! ... I’m SERIOUS ... you led ... and it matters.” (As if Tesla never existed ... in senile Sleepy Joe’s mind. LOL.)

We have a 2018 Nissan Murano SUV with all the bells and whistles, but our Corolla is still performing well and we’re keeping her until the end.
So, the new way of shopping for an auto is to buy a battery with an auto built around it. when the battery dies you chuck the whole thing and buy a new battery with a new auto around it.
Meanwhile I am driving an old 1997 Dodge truck with less than 60,000 miles on it, and the AC is still working great!
