Recent price hikes at Disney's theme parks have seen the company's profits surge despite a slump in visitors - leading many to accuse the parks of ripping off loyal customers in order to bolster their bottom line.
Since reopening in April of last year, the company has made a host of changes to its preeminent parks in Florida and California, nixing free perks and ramping up prices, causing the cost of a visit to a Disney resort to rise dramatically.
Visitor numbers at the park have plunged by 17 per cent - but the profit Disney makes on each guest has increased by 17 per cent in a year, helping turbocharge the firm's profits.
One of the most profitable changes is the implementation of a $15-a-day Genie+ pass, which was previously free. It serves as an app on guests' phones, and lets them skip some lines on rides.
Genie+ also flags up promotions on merchandise, helping shift the parks' famously pricey souvenirs.

I went to my city fair this year. The lines were so long that I only went on about 3 rides in 6 hours.
I presume the same is with Disney.

But the Genie+ pass does not grant all guest’s rude wishes, with visitors required to fork over an extra $10 to $17 to get access to some of the parks’ most popular attractions - despite having already paid around $100 per admission ticket.

When I went to my country fair I refused to spend a single dime when I discovered that a small lemonade was $5.00, a can of soda was $3.00, a soft pretzel was $8.00 (without cheese) etc.

I consider woke, money-grubbing House of Mouse to be now be one of America’s most despicable corporations, BUT I don’t think that “forced” is the right word here. I doubt that a lot of folks are coming to Disneyland and spending money at gun point. So, forced? Uh, no. This is pretty much the epitome of voluntary, discretionary spending.
ABout that $8.00 pretzel. Was salt included in the price, or was it sold separately?

I eat pretzels without salt. It’s better for my blood pressure. Did you ever see the comedy sketch where John Candy runs a food repair shop?
I still have a D and an E ticket from the 60’s from Disneyland back when it was a lot cheaper. I think my Dad paid like 12 dollars for the three of us, which included the tickets for the rides. I went in the 70’s on leave from the military and think I paid 20 bucks for a complete pass as they had done away with the tickets by then. It was a weekday so all the rides were pretty quick to get on.
I wouldn’t touch that child grooming place with a ten-parsec pole these days.
Recently I visited a website that listed the most overrated and underrated tourist attraction in each state.
For Florida, it said skip Walt Disney World and go to Busch Gardens instead. The lines aren’t as long, prices aren’t as high, and visitors can look at the animals when they aren’t going on the rides.
They should ban white and strait people from going there.

Nobody is forcing anyone to go to Disney.
It’s not like it’s a necessity for survival. A trip to Disney is purely 100% a matter of choice.

Definitely! The Mrs. and I have yearly passes. Octoberfest, Christmas Town, Food and Wine Festival. Ahhhhh Yeah.

It’s their ideology that makes many people now not want to go. People who are paying the extra bucks to go presently, after having experienced the extra charges, are likely not to be repeat visitors; burned once will be enough. At some point Disney’s policies of hosing people financially is going to catch up with them in an increased drop of customers; even among those for whom ideology doesn’t matter but money does, IMO.
