Maybe they are and if so, my mistake. When they are voting and passing laws that impact millions of people, wouldn’t it be important to know they aren’t under the influence of mind altering substances or alcohol impaired?

They should also mandate that bills be analyzed for compliance with the Constitution by an independent legal panel before they vote on them.

No! The Constitution grants Congress the duty to police themselves. They just don’t do it. They didn’t do a very good job of it in the past. Unfortunately, now the money stakes are so high they don’t even attempt. Now if it’s going to be done the voter has to do it. However, we all know ‘My Congresscritter\Senator is great! The other guys are the crooks!’.
Schiff, Nadler, Smalwell, Schumer to name a few are loved by their constituents. Their replacements would very likely be worse!
Term limits! 10-12 contiguous years is enough!

People such as CDL drivers, law enforcement, military... take drug tests and supposedly that’s not constitutional either; correct?

Back in the 80s my company wanted me to pee in a cup. I refused got fired and went on my own. Never looked back. Wound up making more money than I ever would working in the corporate word. Anyone wants me to do a drug test can go piss up a rope.
You will also find that only regular government employee’s are subject to mandatory random drug testing, NOT management.
All companies that conduct any type of Drug Testing should be required to test every last person in the company from the CEO to Stock Holders.
The only way to win is to Require them to live by their own rules.

Well I for one agree with you wholeheartedly.
Q: Why ?!!!

If one should refrain from driving while under the influence to avoid hurting one or 5 or 10 people
...you would think governing while under the influence to avoid hurting the whole damn nation of 329.5 million wouldn’t be too much to ask.
Priorities ,
some have them some do not.
If any should be required
It should be our rulers.
Most jobs aren’t described in the constitution for obvious reasons. Federal political offices are and drug requirements are not one of them. Doesn’t mean you can’t criticize them for not taking one or call them hypocrits but it’s not a requirement, simply age and citizenship
