The popular Palisade and Telluride may catch fire with a hitch harness installed
"Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures until the recall repair is complete," Hyundai said in its defect notice to NHTSA. "As an interim repair, dealers will inspect the tow hitch module and remove the fuse, as necessary, free of charge. The final remedy is currently under development."
Palisade and Telluride owners should expect to be notified of a permanent fix by the time it distributes formal notices to owners in October.

Warning! A gasoline tank and a lead acid battery... a rolling mini atomic bomb!
Just stay clear and allow your local volunteer firemen to deal with the danger. They will be any minute now, just as soon they get home to change into the bunker gear...
Rather odd recall.. my trailer hitches are attached with bolts, require no modules, and the only interface are the lights on a separate fuse.
I guess I’ll find out in October, or if my house burns down before then.
I think they just need to install a USB port or something, just so there is no hot wire
What is with Kia and Hyundai‘s these days? Used to be 25 years ago they were rolling pieces of crap, then they got their act together and became as dependable and reliable as Toyotas and Hondas.
Now they’re crap again. My sister-in-law owns a Sonata that is among hundreds of thousands with engines that burn and leak oil.
KIA. Killed in Action😔
There’s probably one of the round 7-pin interfaces involved.

Is it the 2011 model? If so, sell it.
I remember when trailer hitches weren’t combustible.
Kia and Hyundai have never been the quality of Honda or Toyota. Never.
A lot of the owners still swear by them. I had a 2015 Cadenza that was every bit as nice or nicer than that Mercedes E320 it replaced. Everyone who rode in it raved about it. That said I love Nissan 6 cyl and Toyota 6 cyl cars.
I used to buy Fords. My last car is a Honda because I plan on keeping it the rest of my life

(saw that in Car & Driver years ago)
Same here. We’ve gradually migrated and now have 3 Toyotas and 1 Honda.
I’m expecting my new Telluride on Sept 9. First time in a long time I’ve bought any new car but a Toyota...but the Highlander just doesn’t measure up.
At a family event, I suddenly had to pick up some stuff a few towns over, my car was at the front of the drive...
The husband of a niece tossed me his keys and said black KIA...
WOW,
Very smooth and quiet; being hearing impaired background noise makes me stone deaf, my hearing aides ($$$) are noise canceling but not for every car, I could listen to the radio WITHOUT my aids!
He said it gets about 50 MPG!
I do not recall the model, not an SUV.
I was impressed!
