Amid inflation, salvage food stores that sell dented, dated items for cheap gain traction

As today's high inflation pushes Americans to reconsider how, when and where they shop, salvage food stores are gaining traction.

Nicholas Duke, manager of Uplifting Deals in Asheville, N.C., joined "Fox & Friends" on Monday to explain how salvage food stores buy overstock from traditional retailers to then resell in their own stores.

Duke said the existence of "best-by" or "sell-by" dates on items indicates to retailers when to freshen their food stock.

The products, though, are still salvageable.

Maybe they have a deal with the Pepperidge Farm delivery driver, who would otherwise have to pick it up and take it to the discount store.

The outlet doesn’t sell past-date bread. If it doesn’t sell by its date, they sell it to farmers by the pickup-truck load to feed chickens, turkeys, or ducks.

We went keto 220 lbs ago, so we don’t shop there anymore, but when the kids were home and growing, they were the cheapest carbs in town.

We would stop there after swim practice which ended at 8 am right when they opened. Those kids were so hungry, I feared for my life.

The Grocery Warehouse in the far northeast Houston area often times has brand name cereal for 25 cents to 80 cents per box, and it’s not even beyond it’s best when used by date

Congratulations on your weight loss!

When we had nine children at home, we bought about nine loaves a week. It used to be $.79/loaf or $.59 if you bought five, but it’s more now.

Dented Cans?

Seems like a dent, not a puncture or break in integrity would not be a problem.

Maybe if the dent caused the internal coating to crack, what would that release into the food? Steel instead of tin or lacquer?

Botulism produces a toxin. The toxin is not killed by head like germs are. A little goes a long ways. The toxin has been weaponized for warfare for some time.

I remember when a used tire store was a new thing.
It was just part of the Obamanation.

Careful. People here seem to tolerate a third world country, trash, homeless people, food shortages, $4 a gallon gas and crappy dollar store nutrition.

If Trump was President none of this crap would be going on. Let’s go Brandon!

Do they mean WalMart? Plenty of that to be found at my local Wally World.

Drove by the local food pantry yesterday. Small rural town and there were 50 cars there which probably means 75 people. Never seen it so crowded.
